NY chicken lover!!!!

@Chicken girl 15 I thought I had more to that post?? Must be I thought I was getting too 'wordy'.
I had to do the same. Beautiful hatchery welsummer rooster, was great first 18 months or so, then attacking the kids, quit free ranging. Then occasionally attacking me. I tried putting the fear of death into him but he just wouldn't learn. He got to visit the pressure cooker.
Roosters needing attitude adjustments and dealing with one's that there is no hope is two different things.
Roosters I've had lately don't even fight with each other. I had five in one coop/run this last fall and winter (sussex and giants) and none of them lost a feather.

I'm in Vermont - near Lake George NY ....

??    I bet too far  :)      But I would drive to Lake George

I'd do anything to be sure they have a good home. Yes, I will meet you! When is a good time? I also have a beautiful Cochin too....and a spangled orloff....and..... Never mind, I'm thrilled you want one young man!

That is super sweet of you ! ha ha but No Thank You on the others - the Welsummer fits into my breeding line ... if his attitude cuts it - he will be in the next round of breeding in the spring.

I'll wrap up our connection with a wee little shopping trip - there is an outlet area there - Let's start to PM (private message) to set up the exact details - I never like to put when I won't be home or will be on the road on the internet.

I have 3 spitzhauben roos and a mess of 20 hens all together and the only bird that gets challenges from any roo is Bertha the head hen. Once Bob was gone the coop got very peaceful.

Well we are back.

As Iv'e said before I use a battery of defenses with predators. For rodents keep in mind that they run along the walls.

I place my traps and sticky pad along the walls. Sticky pad so they have to run through them. Myfivegirls If you'd like I can send you some. They shouldn't cost to much to mail. PM if you'd like to take me up on my offer. As for squirrels. I had some young ones stealing eggs out of the nest boxes. Even the wooden ones. I nail traps to the trees and fence posts and have caught a few. I also use a have a heart trap but dispatched them Esther Williams style. Though I prefer snap traps as they're quick and I expect less painful. I haven't had a squirrel take a bird. Though I don't have many chicks running around. Though I may as I have five hens sitting on eggs.

Nice pics rancher. Those black bear one's though, could be anywhere here now. Was it a mamma and cubs?

Yes it was a momma and two cubs. My son says three but I didn't see the third one. While I agree they could be anywhere, they have not been seen on a regular basis as there. They had to change where they did their running because bears have been seen right outside the building. These were seen within walking distance of where he works.

A Moose cow had her baby in the parking lot of Loews. Though I wasn't there to see it. I did hear that they blocked off that part of the parking lot.

My wry neck chick didn't make it. I euthanized her after she twisted herself into the corner of the fence, got her wing caught, and flailed so much that she had an open wound at her breast plate. It must have happened late at night. She was tucked in a safe spot away from her rommates when I closed up. The next morning she was in the corner while the others were still not near her. I was pretty sad about it but realized she was in pain and I don't know if I could have helped her wound on top of her wry neck. :(

Sorry that happened. I pulled mine through, but wouldn't do it again. They run backwards a lot and that gets them in trouble. At least you tried your best.
