Looked quick & a few other eggs are pipped! So they obviously started to incubate before Chickenstock, as I just put into lockdown the eggs I set on 5/29.

Congrats!! Those woolly bear looking chicks will grow into gold spangled spitz. They are the cutest chicks!

I have 5 broodies ...2 with chicks ..3 on eggs ..
I tried to get one hen to take them when i got them ..she made a noise ...then pecked them
as if to say " those are weird looking ..not my babies "
If I decide to replace ..I will probably go with another spitz ...
They are so cute ..she is currently on my lap

They are very cute chicks - can't wait to see what the others look like!
Oh & the other hen just started laying again! So, her eggs will go in incubator - it'll be interesting to see who the "papa" is.
I know hens can store sperm from one rooster for at least 2 weeks, but not sure what happens if they stop laying for a few weeks.
This is the rooster "Daniel" she's with currently. He's blue based, as his chest is a nice solid blue.

@rancher hicks I have several other broodies too. Chicks have been hatching the last few days, so went to move the one hen & chicks. Another broody hen ( who'd hatched ducklings, but I took them & let the ducks raise) came over to the crate & went right in & started taking care of the chicks! The hen who'd hatched those chicks went back to sitting in eggs & hatched more, which I have to the hen who'd adopted the chicks. Yesterday, moved them to an extra grass paddock, away from the flock until they're a little bigger.

Last night there were two hens in the same box. This AM the original EE was standing trying to get back into her box but the new broody had settle in. I will have to move her to the brooder pen in the back room and see if she sticks. I'll just split up the eggs rather than give her a new batch. I don't need a lot of chicks so stay tuned.

One of Frenchy's is a Delaware roo. Anyone who wants it can have it.
