NY chicken lover!!!!

@LuvMyChicks1491 they are something cute when their white. Saw one come out of a hole that goes from our back room to our cellar by our chest freezer. At first I thought a white mouse, kept just poking it's nose out. When I realized it was a ermine at first I thought how cute, then fear for the birds. I didn't give me a chance to kill it and never saw it again thank god. Pound for pound the most vicious creature there is though IMHO.

Thank you Everyone for their Kind Words ..
Im such a Mother Hen ...that sick / handicapped /recently abandoned babies..also get the Mother Treatment ..
( For those that dont hatch - Most Hens stop mothering chicks at 1 1/2 - 2 months
Depending on the hen ...some peck them away ...if it is a single chick ..it can get traumatized)
So I am sure there will be more

Ive got an old aquarium that used to house a tortoise. It's roughly 4 ft by 1 ft and I'm wondering if I could use it as a brooder? Obviously I've clean it very well since the tortoise was in it and I have a screen too made specifically for it. I've always used a 30 gallon tub but it only holds so many chicks and it gets over crowded fast. I myself don't see why I can use this aquarium but if anyone might know of a reason it is a bad idea I'd like to know. The depth is perfect for a heat lamp and I could put a divider in it if I needed to for some reason. Just an idea. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on it.

Great Editing !
Probably Everyone Knows ? that you can edit a quote you are quoting from to make it smaller ?
Agreed VISCOUS LITTLE THINGS ...

Vicious... Is that right? I hope so Lol.
And yeah on the edit thing, not always easy to do on my phone though

Just a heads up, looks like TSC has a lot of stuff on good sales. Don't know if everybody's does but ours in Sidney did. I wanted to buy lots but could afford nothing. Couldn't pass these up tough for processing. $5.99 and they're pretty heavy duty tough looking and came with a sheath. Much nicer set than what I got awhile ago at Christmas tree shop.

what is your septic doing?
It doesn't drain well when it is wet outside. Every winter thaw and spring rainy season it doesn't drain and clogs up. The back yard where the leach field is has puddles. I'm tired of this happening and when it does I have to open it up and push the clog out of the way so it the toilet will go down.

I had a guy here today to look at it and am waiting for and estimate.

I don't know who installed this system.

Last weekend when I was going out to do chores Saturday morning, I hear a rustling in the garbage can in our garage. Now I use this can as a giant mouse trap and it had a paper plate in the bottom with a spoon full of peanut butter and some scratch on it to, so when I heard the noise I assumed that it was either a mouse or possibly a rat cause it sounded like it may be bigger then mouse....Can you imagine my surprise when I find an ermine!! It was so little and so cute, but I know how devastating they can be. My husband told me that I should just relocate it.. My response was "So it can kill someone else chickens, NO WAY!" so I did what I knew I needed to do and I made sure it wouldn't do any damage to anyone's flock especially mine. I couldn't believe that it got in a garbage can in our garage. My husband had left the door open for a few days... I wish that I could catch them all like that, but it was a once in a life time catch... It was so little, I felt bad, but I knew that if I ever let it go, that when it got bigger it would come back and I may not be so lucky!!!

This is what I saw at first...

Awww.. How cute am I...

I am the DEVIL and I will KILL all of your chickens I can just for fun!!!

I had a pic of one I caught one winter. It had a mouse and when I came around the corner it dropped the mouse and ran into my garage. I used a rat trap to relocate it. I don't have the pic anymore.
Any how Thank you for doing what you had to to keep our flocks safe. God Bless you.
