NY chicken lover!!!!

Peggy you've got quite a variety. Here at the homestead I have Rhode Island Reds and White Leghorns, along with some bantams and cornish.

My question to you is this do you have any Orpingtons? I was thinking of adding 6 or so to my stock. I've never had any and looking for someone that has.

Thank in advance.
Joe

Hi,
Have a place in Roscoe, sullivan county!
Dying to have chickens!!! Got an incubator last year but all the eggs were infertile, so will try again this year.
Anyone close to me?

I don't think you're too far from me. I have 5 silkies, hatched 2/6-8. I should have several EEsand BOs in the incubator that will be available as chicks on mar 6. I have blue and black copper marans eggs and Blue/Black/Splash Ameraucana eggs but they won't be available until I make my selection. And I have fertile eggs if you're interested.

Hello!!!!
I spent most of my childhood in Callicoon Center....about 6 miles from you. I now live in Ellenville. I'm starting to get fertile eggs from the girls.....about 2 a day. Soon I'll have a LOT of them!! You're welcome to have some if you like. I have many different breeds all running together.......so they'll be some pretty hybrids.
Welcome to all the newcomers!!!! And "hello" to everyone!!! Have a great night!!!
Kathy

Hi Kathy, thanks, Ellenville is indeed close.
I will keep in touch and contact you in the spring. I think it is still very cold here to start now.
Thanks for your reply.

Nope it's not. In fact in Practical Poultry mag it said that chicks born in the early spring do better. If you've got a place to brood them for a couple of months your good. I got my first chicks last Feb 25 and they didn't go outside til the end of May I think. Probably could have gone out sooner but the coop wasn't ready.

Good Morning to Everybody!!!!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! Anybody else set any eggs....or have any due to hatch soon??!! I have 8 or 9 Delawares due to hatch on the 23rd.......this coming Tuesday. And there are also some hybrids from my girls due the same day, mostly Cochin banty crosses. Will let you know how it goes.
Rancher hicks, I also read the same thing concerning chicks born in early Spring. I've had ducklings born in December....as long as they're kept warm and dry, they do absolutely fine. I have a huge metal brooder that holds 50 ducklings/chicks on my sunporch. You recently had some chicks hatch......congratulations!!!
Kathy

I have eggs under a broody that are due today and tomorrow. This morning there was one buff orp chick and one pip. There was another pip forming. I am pretty suprised that any have hatched at all due to a heat lamp accident. The bulb broke over the broody causing her to leave the nest. Almost all of her eggs were cold to the touch and some were just warm. I relocated her and put her back on the eggs and it looks like she is going to get her chance to mother some chicks!

Its super hard not to run out every so often and look but I dont want to disturb her. She had 10 eggs under her and Im hoping for the best!

Hey, bufforp89!!!
That's great!!! Congrats on the little one........and the ones soon to arrive!!! It's definitely hard not to keep running out to check on them. Please let us know how it goes!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed!! Sorry to hear about the heat lamp incident. But it shows that eggs/chicks aren't really as fragile as we generally think they are. Thank goodness it hasn't been brutally cold outside the past few days. I think your hatch will go very well!!!!Wishing you much luck!!!
Kathy
