NY chicken lover!!!!

We have a balmy 16* right now. Sounds cold but DD and I were outside "playing" with the new Quail and weren't cold at all. Love NY weather. Kills all the stuff that is really scary like fire ants, alligators, frogs that squirt stuff out of their eyes, yup, love NY.

edited to fix spelling-didn't have my coffee yet.

We've had 3 of the 19 eggs that made it to lock down hatch. We had 3 thermometers in which 2 were calibrated, a hydrometer, and auto turner. I keep hoping that I'll have a couple more hatch because I added a couple eggs the tues. after x-mas. The only thing I can think of that could have caused problems is the part of the house we have the incubator in. It's not insulated as good and temp. in that part of the house can be colder. I think for the next run I'm going to try putting the incubator someplace else in the house and see if I get a better hatch. I'm disappointed so far on the hatch rate.

It's so dissapointing when a hatch goes like that. My first hatch was 90% hatched. The next 2 had around 40%. We've had the best luck with broodies, but will have to try incubating again since DH bought me 2 styro bators.

. Just separated the Black Australorps and picking up the remainder of the fencing to separate the Sussex and light Brahmas today. Hopefully to start collecting eggs to hatch in 3 weeks or so.
