you totally need extra roosters when you free range. i double everything i have. just in case.


here my auction list

3 black silkies hens and roo all breaded and pet quailty. one year just decided i dont like black. i like everything but black.

cuckoo maran chicks that are hatching today one is already out. 25 eggs to go . just test hatch dont want any to keep.

also nubian doe 2 years not bred. haven't decided if i want to haul her all the way to bridgeport yet. in my suv.

i may have call ducklings if any one want to buy but i wont put in auction they are too fragile. one hatched out today 8 eggs to go.

Did this site crash a while back--or was it just my computer???? Was in the middle of posting something and lost the site. Anyway, I live in Forestport, about 25 miles north of Utica and am thinking about going to the Bridgeport auction this next weekend. I have several Serama and Serama/mixes that have been living in my cabin loft this winter and I can no longer stand the mess so need to downsize. Have never been there before so I'm just wondering if there would be an interest in these small chickens since they are really for pets only. It's a 2 hr. drive so I don't want to drop them off and then go all the way back if no one bids on them. I guess I should plan to spend the day??????? Any advice???

they sell no matter what. they always bid. once they are in the auction you cant take them back.

must of been your computer. i've been on the whole time.

i have noticed the price i think depends on how they are boxed pair trio seperate etc. and what you write on box. more info the better and age is always good.

do not tie or tape shut boxes. they have to be able to open to auction and show them in cage easily.

also roosters always sell better seperate. then 2 or 3 roosters in one box.

is any one bringing inside pets? cockatiels, gerbils, hamsters etc.

You get much more money the first few auctions. By mid May, prices get worse unless you have something people really want. Plan on spending the day. The first few go pretty late.

I'm going to go through & see what I can sell at the first one. I see an awful lot of combs growing larger in one brooder, but I'm also planning on growing some of the split orp boys out to show. I'll be there regardless, as I'm looking for some things. I mostly need supplies like some egg trays for my sportsman.

Gosh, I really shouldn't follow this thread. You guys all live so close and have such beautiful birds.

We are going to make a new coop in the spring as we got wiped out (almost - one hen left) by an ermine this winter. Broke my heart to shoot him he was so cute, but he had just killed 3 hens so....

Anyway, we have 25 chicks on order (pullets plus one free surprise).

Went to Kings auction last week. There was a beautiful and tempting Bar Rock hen there that went for $12.00, but most of the birds went for $4 - $6 each. There were some turkens there - I had never seen one in real life before. There were also some birds in bird crates - 10 to a crate that went for $2.50 each. This was my first time to kings. We disinfected our boots and clothing after the trip. The place is a bit depressing, however, they had the fire not too long ago and I'm sure they were "making due" in the building they had the auction in that day.

Well, hope to meet some of you some day.

If anyone has anything for the auction you might want to post it here first for what you'd expect to get at the auction and save the commission.

No...lol! Wonky legged roosters will work just fine for eating.
