Rancher, rancher rancher........

you are so right!

I really need to focus on a couple certain breeds but since I had planned to work on about 7-10 of the critical in their own runs and all and now we are moving I'm all over the place. But, I feel bad for my lonely nankin, sumatra and seabright and blue jersey giant! They need friends of their own too! Fyrekitten Farms - I like that, it was supposed to be Thunderpaw acres if we had stayed with the St Bernards and their noisy running in the house but sigh not happening now.

Cass - my thought on the worms is that you'll just have to get MORE babies like me! I thought the Barred were going to come through the fence a couple times but my BR gals are too polite and sweet most of the time. I gave a couple handfuls to the juvies today and a couple to my Bantam Cochins - Sammy just has to be called and he comes right over to me for worms and pets. He cracked me up today - when he gets ready to charge or thinks he's putting on the "hey I'm a sexy rooster" attitude he scuffs his little feet in the dirt and kind of goes sideways like a kid pulling up their pants before they take off.

I also took several handfuls down to the babies - those that are bantams and not ready for the "big" kid" world and the babies that are less than three weeks (yes Rancher I now have a good 13 SILKIES - waaahhhhhaaaahaaahaaa!

But I still love my dellies and all the others! The babies were great with the worms - I never knew a sissy silkie could be so tuff! These guys are about a week old and they were running around with worms bigger than them and if anyone took one they grabbed a wing feather once on a larger bird, would peck at the larger bird or jump on them - it was better than anything on TV today! Yes, even my husband's barreds got worms today courtesy of both of us. When you live surrounds by thousands of acres of woods and have several acres of those woods being your own you do pick up a few leaves.

Happy, we need to meet and do a "go away snow dance" maybe we can sacrifice some of Ranchers Dellies since their big enough to make a decent sacrifice - JK - mine are too cute for that as well. Getting pretty bold too!

have the wood stove running tonight to keep off the chill and MAN it is hot in the house. Came in to turn off the computer decided to open a window and read some messages. I can hear a couple turkeys down by the edge of the road and the property talking to themselves. I love quiet night noises. Nice and dark and quiet except for hubby's snoring. Over that I hear the stream running and the Turkeys, need I ask for anything more - at least no coyotes calling tonight!

Laffin'.

I really wanted to know if worms were considered "junk food" to chickens with regards to egg production. But your answer was waaaaaaaaay funnier.

I thank you ALL for giving me insight into what is causing my chickens to not lay. It was just TOO MUCH for their itty bitty selves this past weekend....add to that the lack of light, with all the rain and the drop in night time temps....well the poor ladies are doing the best they can.

I just hope I get a few more so I can boil them up for my nieces and nephews to color on Saturday. They will have a good laugh at the itty bitty eggs.

Well....it seems I caught the chick bug....Happyhensny felt sorry for me when my pre-ordered chicks failed to hatch on time, so she is hatching 6 (or more if I wish) for me. They are due to hatch Easter weekend. THEN the original breeder I ordered from fixed her lack of fertility problem and IS going to come through on my original order of 5 girls and a boy...they are just going to be younger than I wanted (cheaper too, gotta love THAT) BUT the original breeder wound up ordering one of my breeds from someone else, and they are going to be to young to sex when I go get the other chicks (which she will be able to tell gender of) so I am going to have to get a few extra of THAT breed to ensure I have the number of hens I want. You know how those roos are. They sneak into the box when you aren't looking. SOOOOoo...orignially I wanted 5 hens, one roo. I was going to just breed my own. You know, bio-security and all. NOW? It tooks like I am going to have 16+ birds. Do you know how many eggs a day that is going to be next spring? WAY more than 2 people can eat.

BTW anyone want an Ameruacana roo? I'm SURE I'm going to have a few more of those than I need and they are too pretty to eat. *puts "Roo" next to own name on Raffle list for August gathering*

I forgot to add when I posted about the Poultry Workshop this thursday, April 21st, that you should call Kristi at 736-3394, ext 122 to let her know you are coming...
Its so she knows about how many are coming to plan for the room space.

Thanks, hope to see a lot of you there...

Sue

ps if anyone was thinking of getting chicks, I could bring them to the workshop. Wyandottes, blrws & bw Ameraucanas.

I just hatched a bunch of cutie-patootie duckies from Lovinmypeeps (Kristen) and Sonew (Nat). They are mixed breeds.

Crested Magpie (drake) x Khaki Campbell/Runners and a few White Crested x Cayuga. If anyone would like some, just let me know. These are free to ya'll.
