Sue --- Do you know the name of the person who talked about Peafowl at the presentation in Oriskany? I missed it.

Hi Tgrlilly: I don't remeber his name, however he sold some peafowl to the Utica Zoo. Their phone number is 315-738-0472 (who knows, they may have some babies for sale). Hope you find some babies for your baby soon.

Question for all you silkie owners out there--If roosters grow up together, will they be okay to be together in the same pen with the hens or will there be fighting? I have a group of 6 and I think that 2 or 3 are roos. So far everyone is getting along (they are 3 and 4 months old) and I am trying to decide if I need to have a bachelor pad. I have 5 more in the brooder box and wont know for a while how many of them are boys. I'm still getting the hang of raising silkies as I am a newbie. Also, what colors are acceptable together? I have 5 blues, 2 black, 1 porcelain and 3 lav/partridge split. Thanks in advance!

Amy

New brooder is made. Done by 10 am. I couldn't sleep, so ray didn't sleep either.

New chicks are in it. BIG chicks LOL...

Paper towels are wonderful things when monitoring new birds bathroom habits. Select-a-size paper towels are the Best. 5 portions long, 3 sheets wide.

I don't remember who asked me where my Amerucanas came from.... The answer is Pips&Peeps....I feel very fortunate to have such wonderful birds in my flock. I am kinda hoping one is a roo. If so I may take over the "tool" part of my 12x8 building and keep the 4 Amerucanas in there. Ray won't be happy, but ray has a full sized barn and a 3 stall "shop" for his stuff...oh, and an old outhouse he rebuilt as the "tool shed". All I have is 8x8 chicken coop, but the building is 8x12. I think I am entitled to the extra 4 feet.

edited to add: Those "cute miniature feeders and waterers" that came in the Chick starter kit are worthless. They are fragile and don't stay hooked together when filled. Just a "FYI" since I meantioned them in a previous post. Oh, and the feeder is open on the top and only 8 inches high, so the chicks roost on it and poo in the food. (stupid chicks, stupider feeder designer)

Well after about 9 hrs of working (not including what we did last weekend/during the week/yesterday) we now have electricity back in the barn and coop. Still have to do the wiring for the lights, plugs, ect. There was alot old wires, boxes, outdated wiring that had to be replaced. It is nice to know that it is done properly and won't have to worry about it. Nice thing is as I pull out all of the old wires I will have alot of copper that I will be able to take back for scrap to help pay for the stuff we had to buy.

I am reducing my Marans flock and will be offering 1 & 2 year old hens for sale next week. I'm running on a "lot" of chicks, so I need the room.

Is anyone going to show at the Fingerlakes Feather Club Show, June 5th that has Silkies?

If you are, and have some for sale, I"m looking for Lavendar, Partridge or blue partridge, or buff.

I will be there. I can buy outright or trade for Marans, Blue laced red wyandottes or B/W Ameraucanas, chicks or adults.
