I keep forgetting about Kings. A the price birds are bringing now, I lose money driving there, but I can't keep feeding a gazillion birds! Maybe in 2 weeks I can go. I have a 9m appt tomorrow to get 16 birds processed in Canastota. We did it twice, but this time, I just don't feel like doing it...8-(

The last time I went I brought my truck and I think I spent just as much in gas as I did from selling them. Taking DW smaller car which gets about 3 times the milage this time. Making windows in cardboard boxes to drop them off in. That way people will be able to see them before they up for bidding. Leftover fencing works great.

Its also the 45 minute trip each way that gets to me....

Well I only have a few Ee/del chicks and some frz/del chicks. I told the girl/women at TSC she could have them. i do have a EE roo that I got from Trylin and I wish she'd take him back. I'm not sure how I ended up with him. I just wanted a couple of pullets.

I'll tell you this. If i get another broody I'll leave her outside for the night and work harder to break her. I did manage with one EE but she was tough. You can't even give the darn things away. And I'm not breeding next year unless I get buyers with a Dep. I hope to be doing Lav orps, Dels, and BR's maybe some BO's too.

Sure wish I would have had room for the frz/del chicks. They probably look so goofy that I would laugh daily! They sound like cool birds. Wonder how big the eggs would have been? Oh well.

I agree with you on the deposit issue. It always make things more serious. We paid for chicks in February that we asked to be shipped in June. It was the best chance at getting the chicks we wanted.

Happy Country Hens

The EE always seem to get good prices at the auctions, but those are early auctions. Prices at the couple I went to were off from last year. I planned ahead and sold most of my extra stuff at Bath, I could have sold more Runner ducks on CL if I had them to sell, sure wish I hadn't accidentally killed that batch of 12!

Ameraucanas sell much better than the EE do, I always have people asking me for hens, if only I didn't stink at hatching! I have a really pretty EE Roo that everyone always wants, I never could make one that looked like him tho.

Can I make a suggestion? IF they don't mail the checks, take a Self addressed stamped envelope with you to give to them and ask them to please please please mail your check to you, since you have a soccer game to get the kids to by 3 pm. (OK, white lie, but who wants to wait around and be tempted to bring home more than they sold?) Put a post it note with your name neatly printed on it on the envelope so they know who's envelope it is. (Might want to list what you brought to sell on the post it too, to make sure you get the money for all your items)
