NY chicken lover!!!!

I put two 60 watt bulbs in the coop to add a few more hours of light. I need the eggs. You know with the new energy efficient bulbs that 's not to much electricity.

I hope to be the new owner of some new SFH's and Birchens on Tuesday this week. Missed out last week due to a brooder problem. I was only expecting the Birchens but then due to the problem the Swedes were offered and I jumped on it to save $40 for a second shipping.

I can't wait.

Good morning!

The farmer that uses our back lot just came and harvested the corn this week. His picker must not work well or it's a trait of pickers, but there was a lot of corn missed. So we spent a good portion of yesterday night picking up what we could find to feed to the chickens. The girls love helping shuck corn.

LOL. You should see the eggs my white leghorns lay. They are torso-sized sometimes! I don't know how those little things do it.

Does the Schuylerville auction go on during the winter also or do they shut down at some point? I am hopefully going to do the NYD hatch (if I can find eggs) so I'll have roos to unload in march or so - if no takers, was planning to take them there. Got a whole $1.25 for the last two roos I brought there!

don't give them any with mold. Chickens get sick if they eat it!!

Everyone cross your fingers for me, please. CL ad yeilded someone, who hopefully won't be a no show, that wants TWO roosters for her flock. Woohoo

Maybe I can get her to take the third one too and post the one she decides she doesn't want on CL herself? OMG, that would be soooo good. Then I can combine the two "flocks" and only have to feed and water one coop for the winter.

My thinking is to have the big side for "the flock" and the small side for the broodies and quarentine, as required.

I love my roosters, but dayum, there are toooo many of them. And with my luck the one surviving chick will be male too.

I just have my two roos, hoping I can keep keeping them. Both are very sweet so far.

Plus there's two babies I can't guess on yet. No roo characteristics at 8 weeks, but I've been fooled before.
