NY chicken lover!!!!

It's definitely unusual - it's typically much, much colder by now. I'll take it, though - it's saving me from burning heating oil and firewood!

My leghorns are from Meyer also (through MPC). They did fine last winter - a little frostbite but didn't lose any comb. No heat, just my crappy plywood coop. They are the only chickens I have that didn't seem stressed in the heat either. Mine are very friendly. Only problem with them is they LOVE cat food and will displace my poor cat to get to some so I have to make sure he eats before they get out.

She looks like she's going to burst! She's obviously hiding behind her comb so that she can't be identified in a chicken lineup as the cat food thief.

I may just have to reserve some more since they do well.

It looks like we might be getting snow tomorrow evening into Thursday - YUCK. I follow some local meteorologists and weather enthusiasts on Facebook, and they're reporting that all models are now indicating snow up through the Hudson Valley. One of the models has me planted smack-dab in the middle of an 8-10" spot. Ghastly thought!

Bleh, people think chickens stink.. Just spent all week trying to clean a cat pee carpet (had a kitten that was stuck in a room during integration) and have tried everything - all the enzymes, home remedies with H202 and dish soap, carpet cleaners, etc. Finally cut out the bad parts and it STILL smells, even after bleaching the floor. Yuck! Planning to replace the whole thing, but hubby keeps sticking his head in and telling me it smells fine. Maybe all these chickens make my nose better LOL. Anyone know a cheap carpet person that isn't home depot?

Got my incubator (s) up and running! Just in case I can't fit everything in, I have the styrobator up also for the overflow. One day I'll get a cabinet incubator.

Cat pee is one smell that definitely lingers!

Well, I didn't get the job. I'm not surprised, sadly, as, in response to the supposed shortage of pharmacists a few years back, everybody and their uncle opened a pharm school, so now the market is glutted. I'm still disappointed, though. Thanks for all the good thoughts, y'all. Better luck next time, I guess.

Aww so sorry to hear that!!

Same problem with nurses - HUGE glut out there, actually nurses that can't find jobs now - unheard of a few years ago before everyone decided they had to be a nurse.

Do you know any deer hunters? .... There are sprays we use to "de-scent" ourselves before we go out and hunt . ... Some will mask typical odors like dog and B.O. and lunch ... some go alot farther and destroy smells altogether .... the stuff with enzymes and silver .... Primos silver XP comes to mind .... and theres another that works well ummm .. evolve 3 .... We have a wooden box that was outside all one summer and when we went to use it on the porch we found that the dogs had been using it as a urinal .... stinky ... we tried everything ... and as a last resort before throwing it out I sprayed it down with the primos silver and it worked ... the dogs wern't even interested in it.

Wow!! great egg!
So 90 g is just under 3 oz? I have a leghorn too! She is amazing. Still popping them out at about 4 a week when everyone else quit about a month ago.

Anybody ever do artificial insemination? I would love to breed her with a blue egger to see what kind of eggs I would get from the match. I really don't want another rooster though. The 2 I currently have are enough!

Come borrow my black Ameruacana roo in the spring. Then give him back. I don't think we live that far apart. My Black Roos came directly from Jean (pips & peeps) so he's a good quality Ameruacana and a really nice boy, too boot.
