NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks Cass..I absolutely do NOT wear my shoes of any kind in my house..that's just icky to me! No offense to those who do. I've got 3 dogs in my house and that's enough of the "outside in" for me. I've got to admit that sand does sound appealing..I just have no real place to spread it once its served its purpose. The shavings will have to stay. I do plan on redoing the run thats attached to my wooden coop this year. Gonna build it out of the same cattle panels I used for my hoop houses, covering it with clear tarps since its in full shade in the summer and I will definitely be putting sand in there. It will give them a great place to dust bathe and I can throw the BOSS and that like I do now in the hay. I'll give it a whirl anyways.

The wormer...why oh why can't they come up with one specifically for poultry.

You absolutely do not use the whole bottle of Eprinex before the expiration date! Maybe if you've got a couple hundred birds...Rancher's working his way up to that number..

..but still, I've only got 30 and it will never happen.

Hope you all have a great day!

I've been missing new posts, too. Went to My Profile and made a lot of new choices on how my subscriptions are set up. Sure don't want to miss anything

. As soon as the ground thaws I'm going to be a building fool again and looking for eggs, chicks, or whatever anybody has that sounds interesting.

I know for sure I want to try Sussex and bantam cochins, and Rancher has me almost convinced that my flock won't be complete without Dels.

Thanks everyone for the replies on my deceased little Tweety bird. The rest are doing fine and have been going out when it gets above freezing. I think you were probably right and there was something going on with the little skinny girl besides the cold. Right now I have all hatchery birds and most of them are scruffy looking mutts (from TSC). From what I read on this site hatchery stock can be a bit iffy with genetic and health issues.

Hope everyone is enjoying this pretty sunny day.

I used 1 ml on the back of the neck for Large fowl and point 5 (.5) ml on my banties. They all survived. I have seen other recommend 1/2 that dosage.....I wasn't even sure my girls had worms, but I know how wet it is here and how much they free range, so I figured it couldn't hurt. I will be doing it again in about a month, just before the weather gets really nice.

PS I would have gladly given you half my bottle for half the cost, cuz I will NEVER use it all up before it expires.
Thanks for the info on the chickens. I am hoping to use it on my goats and cats too. So that would be around 60 birds (chickens, ducks, pheasants & peas), 3 goats and 2 cats. If anyone has info on goats or cat dosage please let me know. Also, how often do you dose them? 1x month, seasonally, year, etc?

Rancher, Thanks for the offer. I MAY have another coop for REAL CHICKENS.

We ordered small squares for the bottom of our nesting boxes from Farm Trek Catalog.
Hoping this will help keep the boxes clean. Will let you know how it works.

This Winter has been SUPER. NO SNOW. YES.

Might want to try emailing the company about goat dosage....however the cats I would do the same the the birds....they are approximately the same weight, right? A large cat (think Garfeild) might want 1.5 ml

Is there a weight chart for cattle on the box? That would give you an indication for the goats also.

I have never read about anyone feeling that monthly was advisable. Most are saying they do it twice a year....once going into winter to get rid of the summer aquired worms and once going into summer (last spring) to get a head start on the ones they aquired drinking out of spring puddles. Some only worm when they see a drop in production that might be atributed to worms, some never worm cuz their grandpappy never did, so they aren't going to either. (Most of those folks don't have chickens who are older than 3 years however)

What I like about the pour on is it kills ALL BLOOD SUCKING things on the chicken....meaning lice, mites and worms. SOoooo for me, twice a year is gonna be my system, cuz I really, really hate picking up a chicken and then having to pick the mites off of my arms.

Happy - are you asking for the box of bubble wrap with eggs in it? Aria turned me down so if you want it, it's $15 for the shipping. Eggs are free.

Cass - I didn't know Exprinex had an expiration date. I never noticed. As for the "need"? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, IMO. No since waiting for worms to rear their ugly heads, nor mites for that matter. I too intend to do them again in a week or so.

Glass - do you have a roo in the mix. If not perhaps that will help. Doesn't matter Bantam or LF just as long as he's there. He can help keep the girls from fighting.

Cass and Glass - At the top and bottom of the page you will see

Rancher,

I have done that THREE times and I still don't get the "updates" in my email. And I have checked my spam/junk folder. So I am reduced to checking my subscriptioin listing, compulsively.

The expiration is on the box, not on the bottle....it does expire....And I'm with you about an ounce of prevention, esp when it comes to mites. Gawd, I hate those itchy things.

Hey, I found 2 of my older hens IN the nest box. Maybe they will start laying again? I mean, isn't that what hens are supposed to do? Lay eggs?

IF they go broody I'm gonna stand in line for Rancher's eggs.

My neighbor had 7 chickens (2 I gave her) and one of them just went missing....sooo IF I find myself with too many hens I can give her a couple. Her girls give them names and take really good care of them.
