NY chicken lover!!!!

IF they go broody I'm gonna stand in line for Rancher's eggs.

My neighbor had 7 chickens (2 I gave her) and one of them just went missing....sooo IF I find myself with too many hens I can give her a couple. Her girls give them names and take really good care of them.

I think I'm planning to rehome two whole coops when spring comes (just the chickens, lol). Haven't decided yet, but I need room for the babies! =)

Rancher,

I have done that THREE times and I still don't get the "updates" in my email. And I have checked my spam/junk folder. So I am reduced to checking my subscriptioin listing, compulsively.

The expiration is on the box, not on the bottle....it does expire....And I'm with you about an ounce of prevention, esp when it comes to mites. Gawd, I hate those itchy things.

Hey, I found 2 of my older hens IN the nest box. Maybe they will start laying again? I mean, isn't that what hens are supposed to do? Lay eggs?

Check the e-mail address that BYC has on file. I've had people send me their e-mail address and I can't get through. PM someone your e-mail you have on file and see if they can get through. One person sent me their e-mail address and it didn't work and then another and then another finally I just gave up. They never did get the article I was sending. It might be a server issue. Who do you use?

Any one in need of a 6 mo. wheaten ameraucana cockerel or a 10 mo old silver ameraucana cockerel. I have more roos than layers right now

Checked email on file....it's the same one I got updates on before the change over. Same one that I got updates after the change over until like yesterday. I am getting email in that account from everyone spammer in the world, so I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem with recieiving email to the account. Basically, it's just frustrating. (My ISP is Verizon DSL, which can be iffy, but is usually reliable)

How are you going to rehome that many chickens? I can't rehome ONE ROO, much less a whole chicken coop full of birds.

If you rehome girls, even with a roo, you get inundated with emails. Of course, they'll try to get them without the roo, but I just say no. :) One of my coops is all girls, so that one would probably be gone by the end of the day, but they are my special girls, so IF I send them away I want them to go to a good home. I sold a one eyed brahma cockerel by offering him with two ladies.

I don't have any extra girls.....Just an extra Ameruacana roo from Jean's stock....should go fast, you'd think....you'd be wrong. Maybe later in the spring?

Cass - thanks so much for the info. Honestly, I have been looking an looking for info on Ivermectin. The vet want $60 for 3 pkgs of flea/tick meds for the cats alone. Holy cow! I bought a bottle of Ivermectin for $10 at TSC. Enough to dose everyone and their "brother" for a LOOOONNNNGGGG time. This week I think I will start dosing the birds at dark while they are roosted so its easier to get them, no chasing sounds better to me. (Thanks Rancher) The box says 1mL per 22 lbs of body weight. Anyone really good at math?

That would be .25 ml for 5- 6 pound bird. Personally I wouldn't use less than that regardless of size, BUT I would only do a few birds before doing the whole flock, just in case. I did my whole flock and held my breath until I heard crowing the next morning, but I figured I would just start all over with the breeds I wanted if I killed them all. I didn't. They all lived and started laying again, actually.

Would be .5 ml for 10 - 11 pound animal.
Would be 3 ml for 66 pound goat. How how you are gonna weigh a goat, I don't know. I figure if I can lift it it's under 50 pounds and if I can't it's over. LOL

Edited to add: Annie be SURE you get it high on the neck of the cats so there is No Way they can lick it. I almost killed my cat by putting it low enough that she could lick it (Hey, she moved when she felt the wet on her neck) and she was foaming at the mouth and off her feed for 2 days after that. And I WASHED it off....ever try to wash a cat? OMG...just make sure you get it high on the neck/back of head so they can't lick it. And please let me know if the cats survive. After my experience with the Vet's stuff and the foaming mouthed cat I haven't wormed her AT ALL and she really needs it, but I am scared to death to try again.
