NY chicken lover!!!!

Featherz - DW and DD were fighting over eggs for their co workers. I finally said no egg for a week. I even let them take the funny shelled eggs. I told my customer too. No eggs for a week.
This weather is great but my girls aren't laying enough. I hope all goes well with your hatch.

I started the Dels on Dumor and the Orps on Agway egg producer to see if there is a difference in laying. Buckwheat my frizzle who hasn't laid for months laid three in the last week. I'd like to stick her with the orps. I may still if this weather keeps up.

Vmdaniel - I like to candle too but don't out of fear I'll mess things up. I did this last batch over a few days and that will be it til the hatch. I have to do it at least once to pull the duds. I'm down to 27 from 34. 10 are CR's from GA. I hope they all hatch. The rest are Dels or EE's. Not sure who the dad is on the EE's. They're all colored so I'm hoping for more.

Mads - I just can't hold off. What if only a few hatch? I need to replace some of the Dels with new girls. Which remind me I need to order bands of another color. I plan to have each year color coded then I can know who is the oldest and replace them every two years. I'm always open to advice on how to do these things you know.

I've got a broody with 9 eggs under her but those are from Trylin and a couple of Buckwheats but I don't think they're fertile. I will candle in a week or so.

I'll also have to start saving eggs for when this batch is done because I'm planning to fill it up again. I may buy some Sussex eggs to hatch. I hope to grow these out and sell them when they are sexed. Of course everything is subject to change. I also do trades so never count yourself out if you have no money.

Take care folks, places to go and people to annoy.

Where do you get you bands Rancher. I like your color coding idea:) And what size I have Del and other dual purpose birds?

Amy,

Next time you are at work, stock up on the epsom salts! I suspect that while you are getting buff that you will need hot epsom salt baths to help ease the pain of all those "moving wood muscles"! Ans find a good massage therapist!

I am hatching Americauna(EE)/leghorn crosses, a olive egger and americaunas. I am hoping for light blue egg laying machines! I want them to lay ASAP! At the end of June they will be 4 months old . I hope that the long days will bring them into lay quickly. Brooing in the basement does create a lot of dust but this year I have put up plastic sheeting around the brooder. Within the plastic sheeting there is a small window that I can open if it gets to stale. I hope to get them into the garage by mid April.

My son will be 18 in May and I too, have begun dumping stuff. First it gets moved to the garage, then if after 6 months, it gets tossed, unless of course, I find it buried in the basement, then it gets tossed immediately. The older I get the more minimalistic I get. I want a clean house, but don't like to take the time to clean, so I figure, less stuff less cleaning. Seems to be working..........
My Amerucana hens JUST started laying....seems to be a common thing with that breed.....Late development....My girls hatched last MAY.....really long time to wait for eggs but worth it....

One of my young buff brahma bantams just started to lay this week.

My mille fleurs the same age still haven't and my young mille fleur roo seems to have a leg injury.

Egads, don't let my chickens hear that. I have one gorgeous BLRW that LIVES to be broody. I think she was broody all last spring.. either three or four hatches worth - and she was only 8 months old then. I may have to rehome her this year, she is a GREAT momma but she never lays any eggs since she is too busy wanting chicks.

OHOHOOOOOH I'll take her and give her a wonderful home. *hands featherz a $20* Have to have 2 of them tho, as you know, you can't introduce just ONE hen into a flock.
