NY chicken lover!!!!

Here's something that might be of interest for my local-ish peeps. The Rensselaer County Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a tree and shrub sale. The prices are good, and you don't have to live in the county to buy anything from them. I'm eyeballing the package of five 3-year-old high bush blueberry plants for $28.

HI, I HAVE BOUGHT THIER STUFF IN THE PAST, YOU ARE RIGHT, PRICES ARE PRETTY GOOD AND STUFF IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

I put 2 blueberry shrubs in large containers last year. Because they have such a specific ph range and shallow roots containers are doable.I just used the hand cart to wheel them into the garage(not heated) last Fall. I took them out several weeks ago and they have tons of buds. I can't wait to see what kind of yield I get compared to the others I have in the ground. The 2 in the containers are the new "lemonade" variety, a pink purple color.Don't have those prices down on Long Island, wish I did.

Congratulations..Green with envy... Living on Long Island my yard is 110' x150' (and they consider that a double lot in this town) I need to move back upstate. Can't help I'm only allowed 6 chickens and the list of rule are a mile long. One that cracks me up is they have to be quiet between the hours of 11pm to 7am. I constantly remind them that they can't have any loud parties..

Good luck with your new home

Ok Guys: Its Official I am happy to report we closed on the Farmhouse yesterday(Monday)... so help me out with the chicken math and the equation of that with 15 acres.. lol...

I just wish I could grow stuff. Those blueberry bushes sound great and I would love some but alas, I would end up killing them. Trying to talk my dd into getting some for her garden. Told her I would trade eggs for blueberries.

The hatching room (aka my youngest daughters room, who is away at college) seems to be working out well for my incubator. I have the blackout curtains closed and the door closed but not shut and the temp in the bator is holding at a nice, steady 100. The humidity is reading between 20 and 30 percent and thats with no water or sponge in there. I think thats pretty good. Kinda nervous about today as I work a double so I cant check on it but hoping it stays that way.

You are right Rancher. The way to a friends house is never long, except at these gas prices!!! I always tell mine that if they want to come visit, come anytime. If they want to come and see the house beautiful, call and make an appointment! Havent had one appointment yet!!

Cheeps are going to be mad that chicken momma isnt home to let them out on such a beautiful day. However, if they want to eat, I gotta work. Off to push pills for the man.

It is so true about the house! Stalls and coops(poop board) are mucked daily, no matter what. Well, as long as I am home. House, well, things are mostly done. We have just had windows replaced and old paneling replace with sheetrock. DH needs to do trim and I need to get the old carpet up(so many staples on the padding!!!) We were going to install laminate flooring(anybody like this stuff?) But with dd getting married in August an son graduating in June and college bound not sure if the laminate will get done this year. I digress. The house is covered in a fine dust the rooms not finished and I'll have about 20 family members for Easter brunch! Barn and coop will be clean......don't know about the house. I just hope that it is mostly done......

ahhh Goat ropin music? What is that..Blue seal? What is that...Agway..well I have an ideal on that one..but it is small....so it is TSC or nothing..lucky you!

goat ropinmusic.... you know, YEE HAw, drove my truck, lost my girl, missed the train, roped a goat. Country music.

Blue seal feeds and Agway are 6 to 7 miles away from home. The 2 TSC's are about 30 miles away. I like it that way. Keeping the smaller stores alive and well.

Queen - there are some nice places up here and prices are still low.

Pharm - we do the best we can. I suspect out place just needs better planning and de - cluttering. I'm just to cheap to part with junk.

Vmdan - We have some stuff (was here when we bought the place) called Traffic Master. You have to clean it with the right cleaner and it's not for high traffic areas like the entry way. Yeah I know it says "Traffic Master" but that don't mean a thing. DW uses the Shark steamer mop and it's warping in some places where the end pieces come together. I expect to tear it up and replace it with tile, in the entry way to the Kitchen. We have it in the Dinning room and Kitchen.

Better to use a specific cleaner and often. The Swiffer Wet jet thing is what I like but DW says it leaves streaks. You need to make sure it's installed right. It does look nice though and you can get it cheaper at Ollies.

Pharm - the rule for the PP mag is 35% to day 16 then up to 55% to day 19 then to 65% to the end. Seems to work for me. In my case it does fall in the night but that can't be helped. I'm not staying up all night. However I can't help but check it each time I get up to go. Which at my age is at least twice, three times if I drink to much. What you need is an old geezer living in you house to maintain the incubator.

Maybe you can borrow one from the old folks home when you want to hatch chicks.
