NY chicken lover!!!!

hey featherz, you said that you are making a pen for them and I was wondering if you need fencing for them? I have old 1 inch chicken wire fencing you can use if you would like some of it this week!!
I can always use more fencing! :) Even chicken wire I can find a use for! Would it fit in the Smart car? (I do have a jeep also, but it's harder to find in a crowded parking lot LOL).

I think so but not sure. it is in pieces though just so you know! I think they are 7-8 foot long and two feet high. maybe some hatching eggs in trade for the fencing?
I emailed ya. My eggs hatch out cool babies, but they are all mutts. not sure if you want them but always willing to have more grandchickies!

My eggbound (?) hen isn't any better today, but she isn't any worse. Not seeing any advice on the emergency forum that I haven't tried already so she's outside again since she's happier there. She's still walking around like a penguin, but I can't feel an egg anywhere. She's already had her calcium and her warm bath so I guess I'll just see what happens. Bathing chickens is such fun! (not). She's a 2 year old production hatchery bird, so I expected this would start happening.

I love rain, but not the muddy stinky mess it can make. :)

Does anyone around me have an older hen for sale? I keep reading up on chicks and how long it takes before they start laying and mine won't be laying till fall it sounds like. I'd like to get an older hen if possible to keep with them. I'm in Albany during the week and up at my house in Tully on the weekends. My husband is doing a great job taking care of the chicks while I'm not there. I think he's getting attached! LOL

You might want to get two, I would think. How old are your chicks? They'd have to be kept apart for a bit or the big ones will pick on the littles.

They're going to be 5wks+ this weekend. They're getting pretty big. Almost about half the size of the full grown hen.

The youngest was born 4/3, so two are going to be just over 6wks.

Hi my fellow New York chicken lovers.
I just discovered that one of my bantams is a roo :( He has begun to start crowing and shows obvious roo signs. He is about 6 weeks old now. I also have a Buff Orpington that I'm pretty sure is a roo, also about 6 weeks.

If anybody wants a roo, knows somebody who does or has any idea where I could find a good home for these boys can you please let me know?

Thanks! Hi by the way! This is my first time posting on the NY thread! I'm from just outside Albany in little middle of nowhere Sand Lake.

I am offering my Silver Laced Wyandotte girls because I cannot find a suitable rooster...
If interested you can see my post at : http://utica.craigslist.org/grd/3006226683.html on Craigs list.
How do you think one of those would do with my 6-6.5wk old silkies and BO? I don't know much about the Wyandottes, but I do remember glancing at them a couple of times because I do think they are beautiful. Would I really have to keep them seperated for a bit? I only have one coop. :-( But I really want a hen thats a little bit older and is laying eggs.

Ooh, that sounds good! How did they turn out?

Welcome from the wilds of East Nassau, bubbapain!
They turned out really good. They were not what I would consider a soup kind of biscuit though. The yogurt in them flavored them so they were more like a breakfast biscuit. I had mine for desert with butter and jam. It was excellent! Light and fluffy. I'll have to find the recipe online and link it here. Maybe tomorrow because I've got to get to bed. My youngest had us up a couple times last night.
