NY chicken lover!!!!

Dang Rancher...you are one busy dude! Glad to hear from you! Stay well my friend!

Stony--nice pics of mom and the kids.

So I was sitting outside refereeing the cheeps when I hear something walking through the woods. I walk over to the shed and see a spike horn meandering through the woods. All the rir;s were at the end of the run staring intensly at this deer when he came over to the stone wall. He looked at them and they at him. He came across the wall and kept munching his way towards the run. The terrorists are following him in their run. He get nervous as I dont think he quite knew what they were. He finally gets up the nerve and walks up to the run and gives them a good sniff. They just keep staring him down. (Personally I think they were seeing steaks and I think one was salivating) He continues to munch his way to within 20 feet of me before he knew I was there. He didnt seem afraid and wandered off. Dh posted pics of him earlier on this site that he got on his game cam. Kinda cool.

Got lots of housekeeping done on all 4 coops and let everyone out to enjoy the day(except the terrorists.). For some reason, my glw hen trouble hates my silkies and went after them again today. She was sneaky about it to. I had to put the beatdown on her. She may have to go to jail for a while if this keeps up because I think she means to kill them. She was sneaking around the tots coup as well, stalking them. I had to run her off. I dont know why she is doing this. She never did it before, the coops are on opposite sides of the property and they are always given first priority in everything! She ripped out a beak full of feathers from my one hen and went for Little Man (my roo) again. He tries to defend his women and himself but she outweighs him by a lot! I may have to keep her confined while her sisters are out freeranging to adjust her attitude a bit. If she keeps this up, sunday dinner is on her when the terrorists start laying!

Hey everyone I'm still alive.

Rancher

Good to see you!

glad to "hear" from you again Rancher. I've said it before and I'll say it again, don't tell my chickens but I think I prefer my ducks

. Before our runner Penelope went broody she laid nearly every day. The Pekins lay really well too. And the eggs are HUGE from both and very delicious. There isn't a pecking order, they accept new ducks with open wings, they don't even care that chickens exist and co mingle with them fine. LOVE my duckers. If you are going to get ducks make sure you do your research and get a good egg layer. Pekins lay well, but eat like pigs. My guess is the feed to egg ratio is much better with my runners (well once she and her young lady's start laying and she starts again) than with my Pekins.

The Rouens aren't noted for their egg production, as they were developed mostly as meat birds - it seems that they average approximately 150 eggs per year. We shall see, though. Like Pekins, they're feed vacuums, but they're such adorable, personable feed vacuums that I don't mind.

yeah, Pekins are known as meat birds also. But I get 200 plus eggs a year from each girl. Miss Penelope was at least 5 eggs a week before she went broody. I keep waiting for her to lay again since the 7 week old lil ones are almost as tall as her

When my lot starts laying, we'll have to swap duckeh eggs!
