Can I feed a banana to the chickens, my freezer is full of over ripe bananas and I am full of banana bread.

I have a bird in the basement with a prolapsed vent. Got home late yesterday, put away $200 worth of groceries(Oh wait! That was only a bag and a half...) and went out and found Miss Messy Butt. So.... she got a bath and a preparation H treatment, then into the semi dark basement. Went down this morning and it had prolapsed again, out comes the prep H. Could feel an egg coming so I didn't push the issue. I am sure I will be lubing up again shortly. She did this last year and after four days it stayed put till now. Poor bird.

Any thoughts on that banana?

You can try, my chickens hate bananas but afaik it won't hurt them!

Cass has it right. I started with 6, lost one to a fox and rehomed one who was vicious to another. A broody got 3, but only two made it, got 3 to replace the three that were gone, then the same hen got three more when she decided to be broody again. But, one of those youngest is def. A roo, and maybe the americauna, too, what do I know?

I deal eggs at the gym, people really like them, and competition is fierce.

So another muscovy mom hatched out 12 ducklings. Now have 20 babies.

OK I shall give them banana with some kefir. they love kefir. Didn't know if they were toxic. Thanks guys!!!

I chopped up the banana Including the skin of the banana that my husband was eating. It was love at first bite!! Yay!! We usually compost them but, this is good!!

Ahhhhhhhh, what I have is Morehens diease, hmmmmmmmmm I thought it was Chicken Addiction. Well either way, I've learned it's incurable !

I wanted 12 to start. Ordered chicks, 8 made it. Not enough...... Girlfriend needed a home for 4, I'll take them. Spring/ summer comes chicks growing nicely. See an ad on CL, reducing flock of layers, light brahmas available, a;ready have brahma chicks why not some hens. Broought home 3. Need more eggs, friends asking. Ooohh, another flock reduction, brought home 10, RIR & golden comets. Went back to brahma lady brought home 2 buff chicks & 2 blrw chicks. Almost forgot the Mille Fluer bantam cochins -4

All this started Mar '11.............. out of the 33 above 6 were roos.2 buff brahmas turned out to be serial rapeists,they are now stew ! Lost 1 BLRW to an injury. 3 roos left ( all gentlemen ! ) Over the fall & winter fell in love with the Austrolorps, Speckled Sussex , BLRW & EE/OE.

Spring '12----- Need more layers. Oh God ! I started hatching. SS, BLRW, EE, OE, a friend, also suffering from morehens., hatched austrolorps for me. Oh no, another friend switching from a varied laying flock to Blk copper marans needs a good home for his 12 girls : RIR, BR, Golden comets. I'll take them ! I must be NUTS !!!!

Needed an Austrolorp roo, found a nice one for my hens.

So presently I have a mixed flock of about 50 laying hens &3 roos. A small flock 7 & 1 of austrolorps. And lots & lots & LOTS of chicks of various ages from 4 months to 3 months, of SS, BLRW, Austrolorps & Oive eggers.

So if I understand the math................... I have 61 chickens !! Am I correct ? Math never was my strong point

Almost forgot............ waiting on BLRW eggs for my bator :-}

Job change still in progress- it will take a month or two as it requires government clearance. So I can't get an offer till I go through all the hoops. Still keeping my fingers crossed!!

As for my eggs, I use a LOT of egg whites so I just separate all the month+ old eggs - keep the whites in ball jars and freeze those. I feed the yolks back to the chickens. I could freeze those too, but I rarely use yolks by themselves. I guess I could try the mineral oil but I have so many eggs in the fridge it's more space efficient to freeze. I even made powdered eggs with a dehydrator as an experiment last year. Those are still in the freezer .

You could try making homemede egg noodles. It takes a lot of yolks.
