NY chicken lover!!!!

Hello everyone. I am near Albany and Troy, kind of in between. I have 7 pullets that are 10 weeks old, and some beautiful new silkies that range from 3 months to one year. My standard size girls are 2 delaware, 2 barred rock, and 3 austrolorps. We are loving evey minute of it.
Wait...chicken party??
Welcome to the thread.

And yes, every year we have a gathering of feathered friends....or like minded chicken folks....it was today and we had a great time.

Nicole, you just missed it....A great group of people attended. Oh! and welcome!!

Sheesh! I somehow managed to lock myself out of my account and couldnt get on for two days. Finally got my password changed so now I m back. I was having withdrawel from not having read the site for so long!!! Got 13 eggs yesterday from the terrorists and the big girls. Nice to finally have eggs flowing again!

Had to put up my temp fence for the little silkie boys as they are really trying to steal Little Mans women. So...I am looking for some nice breeder or show quality blue or splash silkie pullets for them. The boys are looking really good and are from quality lines so I need to match them with equal girls. Pm me if you have any.

Astelin is not written for much by doctors around here either. Generic flonase is pretty much the standard. Hen's site referal is really good for drug lookup.

Rancher--ask you gp what hospitals he/she has priviledges in. That will tell you where to go. You can also check with you ins company to see where they will also let go.

Hope everyone is having fun at the party. Too far for me and I had to take dh to the hospital to get checked out from his accident on thursday. Car is totaled but he is okay. Thank goodness for seatbelts.

Sorry to hear of dh accident. Is he OK?

I hope this doesn't sound mean

but how about just clipping his flight feathers so he can't get over the fence? Unless y ou want him to be able to get away from the other Roo. In that case I would try physically moving him for the AC to a more appropriate place to roost, after a week or two he should start roosting on the other spot.

I would clip his wings, then maybe he will decide to roost in the coop. I just clipped my roosters wings because he needs to stay with e new group because anew rooster is a-comin'.

KTblue - if you want to keep him you could as suggested clip his flight feathers. OR make a small two chicken safe box near the door since he seems attached to you.

Heni - I vote for that too.

Lapeerain - I'm sure you can get a Maran roo to put with them and then get some green or olive egg layers. Or contact me for some of my EE chicks.

I've got two more hens on eggs and Help me Jesus, an EE that I'm fairly sure is broody. I may stick some eggs under her and it may be a bunch cuz I'm sick of one or two chicks after a month of no eggs. I only have two that lay a color egg of any size. The newest is still laying small blue eggs.

The one that just hatched four is still on an egg that I think is a dud, so I have no idea what to do with her after I take it away. I should have brought more chicks.

Those first eggs are always special!

I must add to the list of Memos My Ducks Did Not Receive. Thus far, they've missed the memos regarding supposed flightlessness, immediately taking to bodies of water with no hesitation, not roosting like chickens, and not laying in top-tier nest boxes. I now have to remind them that Rouens aren't supposed to be very prolific layers. Obviously no one told these girls, as they're all laying every day. Most of the eggs are still adorable little pullet-sized eggs, but one of them produced a fairly decent one yesterday. I had a couple fried up yesterday as breakfast, and they were wonderful.
if there is one thing I learned raising chickens and ducks it is they don't have internet access. If they did they would know they can't eat the things they eat. You know the things the internet says will kill them, yet they thrive on, Your Duckehs would know the things you listed. My hens would know that hens are so quiet that in a city, your neighbor won't know you have hens ( that one cracks me up, my hens can be noisier than roosters) . If they had internet access my Sumatra's that live in tree's would know they need to build themselves draft proof coops or they will die. As according to the internet drafts kill chickens. But lucky for us chickens don't get internet access, so they don't know these things and live on happily.

BTW still have Draa..... Draa .....Drake looks like a lady stuck in my head......

Alas, I couldn't wrestle him into the frilly apron and bonnet, so he arrived at the party a naked drake (draked?).

I love the "hens are very quiet" line. Someone needs to tell my Marans about that. She goes on for ages at the top of her lungs whenever she lays. I also have a Brahma who yells her fool head off if another bird has the audacity to be in her favorite nest box when she wants to lay.

no kidding. My black austrolop screams when she lays, for 10 minutes easily after she is done. Same if someone is in her way. And someone always is in the nest box she wants. As she never wants the empty box, just the occupied ones. I hunt 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile from the house and can hear her when she lays an egg. Hens are not quiet....

congrats on all the duckeh eggs. They are quite delicious aren't they?!
