I think pride parades are particularly stupid, I don't have any pride for being straight, nor do I for being white, having unclipped toenails, a goofy face or buck teeth. The way you were born isn't anything to be proud of, if you wish to abolish hate I think imposing your "pride" will do the opposite. However, I do support LGBT people and I hope the best for you.

Finally a gay thread!!!!

I was sooo thrilled when I found this. A few years ago I almost left BYC cause of the gay bashing.

I want to say Thanks to all for haveing and doing this thread, it really means alot.

Ive been with my "MAN" going on 8 years now. I moved from PA to IN to live with him. I am very out about us, but he isnt near so as much as I am. Alot of that has to do with his job. He's upper management, so he has to keep a pretty low profile cause of his job. Its a shame, buts that we have to do it. I dont hide who or what we are, but I dont wear it on my shirt either.

I really like some of questions that are being asked and the answers that are being given. I feel alot of straights just dont know and are afriad to ask. I feel that with them knowing more, they would or will be more accepting of us "GAYS".

I was married to a female for 9 years and had a daughter, but I wont go into that, its in the past. Way too many hard feelings that I dont want to bring up right now. I will say this thou, since I met my man, Im the happiest I have ever been. I can finally be who and what I am and I love it!.

I would like to be "Married", but he not so much. I dont really need a piece of paper to say we are married, Im more concerned about the issues of money, house, land and insurance. Im glad to see that more states are allowing us to have more rights and such. I have put alot of time, money and energy into what "we" have and if he were to pass on, then by law I can be pretty much be thrown out on my butt. I dont mean to open a can of worms on this subject, but I hope you all understand what Im trying to say.

I really liked the subject/question about "husband/wife". I know each case is different, I can/will say this for us, when it comes to outside work, we are equal, when it comes to household, Im the "lady" of the house. When we refer to eachother in public, I call him my partner, he calls me his friend.

Hope to see this thread hang around for a long time. Glad to know there are others out there. Thanks to all who have kept this going.

Oh I like to play with them. I was born in Ecuador, I have 97 kids, and I work full time at the Happy Trails cafe/motel.

For me it was just a stubborn thing.

I'm incredibly stubborn at times. This was one of those times. I threatened my husband with bodily harm if he said anything to them other than telling them to leave.

(I now know this had nothing to with the census...sorry guys.

Hmmmmmm, complex question requires a complex answer!

Are you talking about reversed roles/sex that the wife wants to be a man/husband and the husband wants to be the woman/wife? I don't know if the law recognize it that you can do the "gender" bending unless one dresses, acts like it. If it needs to be done, they can go to a "gay-accepted" minister or the justice of peace/judge that can put them in the catagory the couple wants to be. It will be tough for researchers to look at the paperwork and see the "straight" couple getting married in a gay ceremony. That is the answer I would have to ask the gay folks about.

92 caddy, welcome! I have a friend (you know her) that does gay bashing but I don't let her bother me. She is entitled to her opinion but leave the religious stuff out of it! Finally I told her its the times of change, accept that it is here, won't change anything, won't have anything to do with her, etc. I do enjoy our talks back in those days. I didn't know you almost left because of gay bashing. It's sad, really, when you want to talk about chickens and what have you and people do have their opinions. It can get downright nasty but if they can not say anything nice, move on to something else.

Gay pride is important for young gay people. Suicide rate is much higher for gay teens, they need to see they are not freaks. A member here just lost a friend for that reason.

There is no shame in being proud of who you are. I am proud of my heritage, my orientation, my religious beliefs, my family, my ethnos and culture. Displaying such pride in organized events helps draw a community of like minded individuals together.

It also helps bring a minority into public view. it humanizes the group of people and dispels harmful stereotypes and preconceived prejudices.

I read somewhere that communities and groups that know their history, have activities and events scheduled around their shared philosophies/heritage,way of life, orientation, etc. have higher senses f self worth, lower crime rates among said communities of people, and higher satisfaction in life. (Wish I could find that study but it makes sense)
