Being legal in a particular state doesn't mean the marriage is recognized federally. I suspect we will see more cases of this conflict like the one below.

Hmmmmmm, complex question requires a complex answer!
Are you talking about reversed roles/sex that the wife wants to be a man/husband and the husband wants to be the woman/wife? I don't know if the law recognize it that you can do the "gender" bending unless one dresses, acts like it. If it needs to be done, they can go to a "gay-accepted" minister or the justice of peace/judge that can put them in the catagory the couple wants to be. It will be tough for researchers to look at the paperwork and see the "straight" couple getting married in a gay ceremony. That is the answer I would have to ask the gay folks about.
92 caddy, welcome! I have a friend (you know her) that does gay bashing but I don't let her bother me. She is entitled to her opinion but leave the religious stuff out of it! Finally I told her its the times of change, accept that it is here, won't change anything, won't have anything to do with her, etc. I do enjoy our talks back in those days. I didn't know you almost left because of gay bashing. It's sad, really, when you want to talk about chickens and what have you and people do have their opinions. It can get downright nasty but if they can not say anything nice, move on to something else.
NOOOOO, come on, you know me!! I'm talking about if I was getting married, and I saw that stodgy designed-in-1840-form, a fiendish little gleam would arrive in my eye, and I'd say to my partner, 'hey, wouldn't it be funny if you insisted on filling in the 'wife' blank, and we got to see how confused and peed off the beaurocrat behind the desk got?????'
And in my family, whether straight, gay or purple with pink polka dots, no one would be the husband, and no one would be the wife, so there would be no 'roles' to 'switch'. We each do what we do best, we each do what makes us happy, we each help the other. Other than that, we don't believe in 'roles'.
As far as the redroosta, and gay pride parades being stupid, you'd probably be whistling out of the other side of your mouth if you had a child beaten to death by 'gay is wrong' people, or a best friend who died because someone dragged him behind a car for a couple miles. The gay pride parades are about having a few hours where a person isn't afraid to be what they are, where they can look around them and know that every one around them is in support of them.
As for gay pride parades bothering a gay person who doesn't want their 'differences' pointed out...boy I dunno. I think each person needs to participate in the community activities that make them happy and comfortable, but I also think there's value in walking down the street, arm in arm, surrounded by people in the same situation as yourself, and feeling safe and happy and secure, even if it's just for a few hours.

Thanks, Em, and mamabear. You just kept me from getting in trollble. This has been a good thread lets keep it that way.
i'm glad I am not the only one that was bothered by the comparisons
If the comments are about the comparisons I made, all I meant was that people are judged all the time by how someone else views them instead of getting to know them for them.

Folks...this thread will stay open as long as everyone stays civil.
This is yet another reminder...hit the report button if you see something nasty - those who see nastiness and don't report it hold as much responsibility for a thread being closed as those who do report it.
I don't see why it would get nasty. I don't go to the pregnant and expecting threads and complain just because I'm not pregnant. Why would anybody come here and complain about a parade?
edited to add: This thread was started to ask if anyone was going to a parade, not to discuss or argue over the rights or wrongs of beliefs.
I love a parade for ANY reason! Gay pride, Pagan pride, 4th of July, Christmas parade, Easter parade (in my Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it, I'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade), and my own personal favorite... MARDI GRAS PARADES!!! I mean, what's not to love about a parade?
I hope that those who attended the parades this summer had a wonderful time!
Ohhhhh the Marti Gras parades, man, I had my fill with them and they are NOISEY and rambatious group of people who really knows how to party! I love eating the gumbos, poor boys, King cake.........benuiet donuts from the Cafe de Monde.......woo hoooooo! The cops on motorcycles, they are a bit aggressive and they would do anything to run your toes over LOL! The crowds are very very large and beautiful parades. I love the ladies (or men) dressing up in Vegas style suits with HUGE feather headresses. Just awesome!
