Hello and welcome. I'm over in staten island and I'm also a first time chick mom . Good luck with your chicks. I agree about not getting a pre-fab coop kit. I dropped 500 on mine and it is way way too small.

Yeah I am hoping that the human cost -actual blood sweat + tears - that will probably end up going into a larger, less expensive coop will still be worth it lol. how old is your flock?

It should definitely be worth it to build your own. It's always way better to diy if you can. My chicks are about 11 days old. Where are you planning to get yours from.

I reserved mine from Meyer Hatchery and since they arrive in May will hopefully be brooding them in the coop
