Fixing me some 7 Grain Hot Cereal. Mmmm The wind is blowing very hard outside, it's not too cold, but cold enough you have to have a thick coat. I had to go outside a minute ago and finish locking a few critters up. The Calls, Seramas, Guineas, and Chickens needed to be put inside, so had to do that.

My OE eggs are super thick coated, too so I can't candle them either. I don't want to sand off the bloom just to candle. I'll wait and see what hatches. Then I'll know "Hey, they hatched, must've been fertile" ;)

Olive eggers are 2 fold problem... the blue eggs are hard to see in... just the color I think makes them hard to see in THEN add the MARANS coating and you are TOTALLY BLIND in Olive Eggers.... I just can see if they are clear and that is it.

Quote: someone told me that maran have thicker shells and are tougher to hatch and I should watch them and intervien if nec, but how can I if I cant see even air cells!! lol

They are talking about when they start pipping and zipping. I don't really find they need help... they will sometime shrink wrap and I will just put a damp paper towel around them to keep them moist. The eggs are just thicker for some reason. I have to crack them HARD to eat them. They will hatch fine... just keep the humidity up higher.

Quote: sanding? hmmmmmm head sideways wondering and think no no no ?????

They sand them to let the moisture evaporate during incubation... not to see in the egg really. Don't do it. Not going to help at this point. I think it could let bacteria in to remove that coating. I don't find I have a problem hatching them just leaving them alone. I do dry incubation that helps.
