Earlier I found one of my babies (16 week old Bantam) infested with mites and lice. So I thought I would try to treat her with Tea Tree Oil. So I put it under her wings, and then decided she looked off so I took he in side . By the time I got her in the house she was almost completely unresponsive, and I realized that the tea tree was effecting her badly, so I washed her quickly and wrapped her up in a towel. She started to grow cold and her breathing dropped to about 1-2 breaths a minute. I kept her by the fire and then it occured to me that she was cold, so I filled up some mini coke bottles with hot water. and wrapped her in a towel with them. I also gave her sugar water with a dropper and massaged her thraot and crop. I thought she was a goner, so I went to eat dinner. when I came back to her, her breathing was normal and unlabored. A few minutes laterShe had some muscle tone back. Then she opened her eyes. I really hope that she is still with me in the morning. I wanted to post this for 2 reasons
!,Tea tree oil at full strength is too much for a little bird
2. hot water bottles can help a bird in shock.
Thanks for reading!

She is doing fine. She is mite and lice free, and drinking ad eating normally. She is also being treated like a princess:lol: It was a close call. i am going to do research on what strength tea tree I could use in the future, because it is what I use on my kids when they have brought lice home. It also acts a s a repellant. I just think that full srrength was too painful to her. I felt so horrible. Like the worst chicken mom ever. My kids think I performed a miracle bringing her back from the almost dead and all. They have conviently forgotton that it was me who almost killed her. I think that keeping them warm would help other chickens with shock though so I am glad I learned something without dire consequenses.
