Hi, I have started using oak leaves for bedding material in my coop but wondering if this is OK. My Dad used them, but he only had chickens for a couple of years so no way to tell if it would cause any long term problem. It made awesome compost. But I have heard concerns from a few people that it might be bad for the chickens. Something about the tannins? Anybody know the scoop? Thanks!

It wouldn't be very obsorbant and I think when they start to decompose it'd be bug heaven.

which would be great for your girls who happen to love bugs! I haven't ever used just oak leaves but I know my girls would love scratching in the run with them.....

I put all kinds of leaves around my roost and nesting areas when it is going to rain, it keeps the area dry ,but are turned to dirt in a few days.
