Oak Shavings for coop bedding?

My father has a wood shop and planes a LOT of oak. Is there anything inherently wrong with using oak shavings for bedding in a coop?

I seem to remember people saying to use pine shavings only but I figured I'd ask since Dad has to get rid of the stuff and it'd be nice to be able to put it to use.

pine just works nice for odor really... Oak probably would too.
