There is an add on c-list in my area. $3 for a bushel of oats. Also says slight bug damage.

I see oats are more of a treat for chickens and was thinking of adding it to there scratch since it seems cheap. Is this good idea?

Also is $3 a bushel good price?

I am not sure what bug damage is to an oat. any Ideas.

I appreciate yalls help with my questions.

Oats are fine for chickens. I might be a little leery of the bugs if they are still in the feed; the wastes etc. If it is just not people quality oats probably just fine for your chickens. Don't have a clue about price, but that sounds a lot cheaper than Quaker.

Do you feed whole, rolled or crimped oats?

I've been making my girls oatmeal with the rolled oats then mixing in plain yogurt and feeding it to them cool.
They LOVE it! Much yogurt splashed on heads & nibbled off by their neighbors.

I also feed crimped oats as scratch.

I buy rolled. Never heard of crimped? I don't cook it just toss it into their nightly salad, about 1x per week.

Crimped is just whole oats with the outer hull cracked - easier for them to get into.
I buy it for horse feed, but then I also feed the horses rolled oats.

I'm a softie - just figured the cooked oats would be easier for them (the chickens) to eat.
