OATMEAL IN THE MORNING FOR BREAKFAST

I know right? Back when I was a new chicken-mama I would get upset if something I gave them, like watermelon for example, flipped over and got dirty. One day I said to myself "Self, these gals are pulling worms out of the mud and gobbling them down like the best thing they ever had. I highly doubt that they care if there's dirt on the watermelon.". Live and learn.
lol that is funny , i also dont like their food to get dirty....i usually put food in throw away containers and wash them out after every use.....it helps food stay clean.......id spoon feed them if i could.....

I don’t know about every morning. I’ve heard some “human food” can have to many nutrients or not enough for chickens. So I always provide chick food and then layer feed once they are older. I add in table scraps whenever we have it. But they don’t get them consistently every day or in place of their own chicken food. I think this way they always have the minimum amount of nutrients needed. And a little extra at times.
they dont get many table scraps....i hardly ever have a lot of leftovers..i will buy canned corn or 100% pumpkin, mix it together and they love it but dont give that very often

Isn't that the truth? I kept rinsing off corn on the cob :gig

And if I tossed feed out to scratch at and they picked at it then looked at me like "what's next? :hmm" I would think they were still hungry and needing a bigger variety in their diet! I ended up having to ferment their feed just to get them eating it again and cut out extras nearly altogether for weeks. They are eating less feed this time of year but that's because they free range so many grass types, seeds and blade as well as wild berries and tons of bugs and worms.

Okay true confessions. I either hang sliced watermelon on clamps on the fence. Or if it’s a slice I put it on a plate. If it’s a end cut I used a apple corer and put a hole though the middle so the juice flows out and I cut the rind flat so they don’t tip it over. I pretty much do that with all their treats.
I love my little clamps.

Clamps work great for corn too!
Just don’t cut off the extra stalk portion ;)
