Obama , try to stop execution of Killer of 16 yr old girl

Obama was just trying to get a stay of execution

Thats what was wrong ,this guy need to be excecuted ,had already been 15 years.. read what he did to this poor girl.

I don't care if it was Bush or Obama a stay would have been wrong.....Thanks to the court Obama was not able to stop it.

oddly enough I'm in agreement with you 100%...

I think the guy deserved to fry, but.... We can't turn our back on the treaty either. In the end it didn't matter so much but things with US/Mexico relations doesn't seem all that cordial now a days..

From what I've read here (which is all I know about it) I'd say we should thank Obama for trying to protect all of us. I find it rather unsettling, to put it mildly, that the guy was executed in spite of not following the treaty. What we think of the prisoner or what he did is a separate issue, in my mind.

And you couldn't get me to run for POTUS for a billion bucks.

Exactly!

Sounds like the Mexican Government never really cared if the guy lived or died or even knew about it. He had 17 years to get his ducks in a row. It does send a clear message south though. I am not sure what Obama's real reasons were, most likely political posturing.

Unfortunately the cops never saved us the trouble on this one. Since when has Mexico been a faithful ally? Corruption is the norm with that government.

What were we supposed to do with the guy? send him back to just see him return and get another victim? provide him healthcare and food/shelter? for life? May be time to rethink that treaty.

I like the way Texas handles their death penalty issues. It is too bad Illinois dropped the death penalty, and allowed some very horrible men to live out their lives in jail.Should have killed them.

In 2008 the Supreme Court ruled that no state could be forced to follow an international court ruling without an act of Congress. Congress has not yet made such a law. The appeal made by the Obama Administration was to delay the execution on a possible future law being enacted. That's a weak argument and the Supreme Court struck it down. Texas was within it's rights to execute this criminal.

I'm not debating whether the overruling and ultimate execution was not right, all I am saying is that Obama did the right thing attempting to call it to a halt long enough to find out. We can't say, "Well, he's a killer, so he deserved to die anyway", because what if we disregard this in the future with someone who happens to be innocent? It was the right thing to do to make sure the execution was correctly done.

I predict that this thread will not make it 'til morning...so before it gets locked, here is my 2 cents:

I wish Casey Anthoney had lived in Texas when she killed her daughter....we wouldn't be in this predicament. O.J. too.

That is all.
