oddly enough I'm in agreement with you 100%...

I think the guy deserved to fry, but.... We can't turn our back on the treaty either. In the end it didn't matter so much but things with US/Mexico relations doesn't seem all that cordial now a days..

*grumbles* the US does not have a good history of honoring its treaties

There is more to the joke, but you get the jest of it. And it soooo true.

Any state that is serious about deterring violent crime uses capital punishment. Just look to the corruption in the legal system and the crimes that are allowed in Mexico, it is the outcome of being relaxed on punishment including bribery in the law enforcement department. I am not sure why the U.S. makes treaties that are not in line with our principles and laws. On the other hand if we do not honor them then they are worthless.

He lived in the United States since he was two years old. He was a citizen in all but a technicality. No one in Mexico except for maybe his family will give a rip unless they wanted trouble anyway and were just waiting for an excuse.

When it comes to executing someone his status is just a technicality. If he wasn't a demented killer that doesn't really deserve to live, but was an honors student that little technicality would keep him from getting a good education for the same price as his fellow students.

What he did was horrible and he deserved what he got. Procedures and treaties have to be followed though. Treaties are always 2 sided. Can't expect the other side to honor a treaty if we don't.

Yeah Kristy. The US didn't honor their treaties very well when it came to the Indians. IMO our treatment of the Indians was just as bad as the slaves. A lot of people would be absolutely shocked to see conditions on a lot of reservations. That's another topic though.

It's Texas. Given as that state said despite chasing a child down to kill him, Andrea Yates is legally insane, yet executed Milton Mathis, some how I am not shocked in the least. Disgusted, but not shocked.

In 2009, murder rates in states with the death penalty averaged 4.9 per 100k. In states without, the average is 2.8 per 100k. Texas is consistantly in the top 10 states for violent crime. Pretty sure that DP isn't a deterrent.
