Obama Vegetable Garden

I'm with Cetawin on that.. and it sickens me that some people want those laws.. soon enough all food establishments will be going out of business to well established large ones, that the government will be monitering.. determining what chemicals to put it which plant and animal, how much, which angle of the sun hits the plants, and how the animals walk

Then no one can do anything except eat from there.. then watch the places get hit by bombs or the produce get contaminated and kill everyone from salmonella (sp?), then by the time I'm old and gray we'll all be eating canned styrofoam.. and I'll say "I remember when I had a garden." and everyone will stare at me because they wouldn't possibly know what a garden it.

Ok, so hopefully that never happens, but in all honesty, my family has been gardening for ages, people around here think we're taboo.. now its going to be the newest hip thing? I'm not sure whether to be angry or rejoice..

I was in the garden when gardens weren't 'cool'

Good for them! I can't wait for another couple Like President Calvin Coolidge and his wife . . . I can't help but like a person who will keep a couple of ducklings in the White House bath tub.

I think the idea is really cool. It will be an interesting learning experience for their children, too.

Now we just need to convince the Obamas that their yard also needs some laying hens.

"A chicken in every yard!"

Absolutely. Maybe it's a stunt or manipulative, maybe the first couple won't get their nails dirty, we can't read his mind, and who cares anyway.... It can only foster good things.

Maybe it is Obama's way of saying he disagrees with these bills like NAIS, or with the farmer who had to sign something that he wouldn't grow any other type of corn, etc. Wonder how NAIS would fare with RIR's in their back yard or ducks in their tub.... I'd love to see them get 25,000 letters from BYC members giving them a thumbs up....

I think some of you have missed something really important here. The Obama's will have a garden with SECURITY. Soldiers with guns pointed at the rabbits. That's what I need! Anyone want to walk around on my roof all night? Yeah, it's PR fluff to distract us from some really big problems, and really who gets other people to come in a put their garden in for them and calls it their own? But the security aspect would work for me. lol

i love the security aspect!! I need that blankety blank deers!!

As for the rest - the food bill is just that it s a stupid bill You don;t like it quite moaning about it and stop the darn thing. Or better yet fix it.

As for the rest. - Geez people lighten up.

How would you like it if every single thing you did was judged by the harshest standards possible. Even your best actions could be spun differently.

I brought food to an elderly neighbor today. I gave him a cupcake!! What was I thinking offering an old man something so sugary! Why did I give him fresh eggs did i think he couldn't buy his own, Why would i give some one so old fresh breads those crusts are bound to be too hard!

Listen to yourselves!

The garden is a great idea. No, they can't do it all themselves. can you imagine the security issues? Not to mention how everyone would be screaming what are they doing in the garden when the economy is in such bad shape?

Focus solely on the economy, he gets accused of not being able to handle more than one thing at a time.

Focus on several key issues he gets You need to focus on the economy!

I just love the old photos of the White House way back when there were cows, horses and the like roaming around. And having a garden is so great for kids- I am glad the Obama girls wont be missing out

Oh, for goodness sake, how did this get to be about politics? They're planting a garden. Who cares what their reasons are? If it was for a PR stunt don't you think the article would have been more widely spread instead of some stupid food and dining section? They're going to be taking school children to see this garden. There will be school children there who had NO idea where food comes from except the store. There will school children who start to nag their parents about growing a salad in the back yard and this is a GOOD thing regardless of your feelings about the administration.

I agree, for some children and older people who live in the city, there has never being an opportunity to raise a garden. It will be a great learning experience for all involved, including the Obamas.

I lived in the city once when I was younger, do you know how difficult it is to grow a garden on the concrete sidewalk? And with very limited space, it is next to impossible to care for a container garden.
