New chicken owner and just wanted to share. My 4 week old chicks are already being bullied. My Easter egger “flair” literally uses her head to scoop under the others to knock them off the roost. Also my Salmon Favorelle is obnoxious- she screams if I touch her or pick her up. She’s so fluffy that I’m hoping she’ll let me hold her or let her perch on my hand but she just screams bloody murder,

Good morning.

The argument over where they roost and who they roost next to is normal. It may or may not ever change.

Some birds just don't like to be held and that's how it is. I had one who didn't mind it, loved to sit on my shoulder whenever I went out. That was her choice as I never encouraged or discouraged it; the rest were happy to hang out and peck my toes.

I have one pullet that loves being held, a pullet that doesn’t like being picked up but will tolerate being held, two pullets that hate me touching them, and a cockerel that hates being picked up but he will happily sit in your lap for hours. All chickens are different and some tolerate being held more then others.

They will probably always fight over roosting spots and you can’t stop it. Mine fight over the ends of the roost, and it gets a bit annoying.

All chickens have there own personality just observing this might give you a better angle on how to approach your birds. My 1st hatch Wyandotte is very trusting of me, tries to rest on my lap or my shoulder. I've never encouraged this behavior, I can also pick her up. But the 2nd hatch chick is not interested with me, she just does her own thing.

Most of my birds would prefer not to be held. I normally get maybe one from each brood that likes to he held and she normally grows out of it as soon as we put them outside lol. Have had 2 that liked to perch on my shoulder a rir and an Easter eggers. Only have pic of the ee. And ger sister nugget doenst mind chillin' with my son lol. But most of the others run like hell if they even think we will try to pick them up lol. And they all fight over one single nesting box even though we have 4. They roost in a giant tree at night so they can all have their own branch if they want but I have had smaller girls fight for spots in the tween pen. Thats what I call the coop and pen that I put the chickend that are too big for the brooder but not quite big enough for the big pen

The complaining seems to be a trait of faverolles from what I hear 😁 I have 4 that are 9 weeks old and they complain every time I touch them BUT they also want to be right up in my face, talk to me, and want to be right under my feet or next to me when I'm with them.

Haha : good to know it’s not just mine. If any chicken pushes her Or gets in her spot she has a fit.
