Obnoxious Guineas

I love my Guineas for their Bug patrol duties, they have really cleaned my property up of ticks and just about anything else they can hunt down and eat. I raise them with my Chickens and they fly out of the Chicken Run to do their bug patrol thing all day long , then fly back in the evening to roost with the Chickens. It took me a while to get them to mix with the chickens, I solved that by raising keets and chicks together. However the Guineas do make a lot of noise over the least little thing and it looks like they team up like a gang of punks on everybody else around the homestead:

Oh my gosh, that pic made me laugh out loud, and I am at work.

My guineas and chickens also roost together. But, if anyone doesn't make it back in to the coop for night time, it is guaranteed it is a guinea. They do pick at everything and goodness forbid a friend brings their child to play with our kids, I have gotten several phone calls from parents new to us who are bringing the kids over to play -- "There are turkeys in the driveway stopping our car, can you help us get past them!" (They were unsure what guineas are)

Our cats will walk through them if the chickens are out, but otherwise they give the guineas a wide berth.

Love the pic and the fancy comments...unique.. I am another guinea lover. I have always had guineas and find them the best early warning system around for the flock and for us. Absolutely no one steps on the property or drives up the driveway without the guineas seeing them coming. They trumpet out to everyone.. We hear them, first thing said,"Company is here" or "egg customer coming" ...lol

The whole flock is in sync with the guineas. All my free range chickens pop their heads up to check out the surroundings when the guineas bellow out their warning calls. Perfect arrangement along with bug control. Good at keeping roosters on their toes as well.
