I have just brought a 4w/o baby chick (spontaneous buy, have no idea about chickens). she doesn't like to be left alone. when I first got her she was shivering so much I put her down my shirt and she fell asleep in there the whole drive home. I got home and set up her spot with the heat lamp, food, water etc. but she makes the biggest racket until I put her in my shirt again.
is this behaviour A. normal? and B. ok.

The behavior is normal for a chick who is being raised alone - chickens are flock animals and she needs a friend (preferably two or more). Animals are never a good spontaneous buy - it is important to know how to provide for them properly so that they do not have to suffer through the learning curve. It might be a good idea to stop by the Learning Center here on BYC so you can start to learn a bit more about what your new charge needs from you.
