Occellated Turkey

Well then. I'm glad I didn't have my heart set on getting any...lol They are beautiful though.

The bird standing up I assumed was a hen until we walked the length of the aviary and I saw the smaller turkey laying down. Then I wasn't so sure. Neither of the birds were very large, but the one in all of the pictures was a bit bigger. Color wise they were both about the same. The way the sun was hitting the one laying down in that pic messed with the color. If the one standing up turned a certain way it lost the color as well. The wikipedia article mentioned the toms having a snood, which I did not see. I also didn't notice any spurs. I think I looked and didn't see any. I certainly can't tell in the pics or not...

hmm interesting and yeah i deffniatly dont see a snood either! *puzzled*

lmao yes they do! I think turkeys are okay...but id personally rather only raise em for well yum yum time lol. I'd never raise these...too pricey for what i'd use em for lol!

My mom had 3 bronze turkeys...a tom and two hens...the tom was HUGE and MEAN....i hated and was terrified him all at the same time his spurs were over 2 inches long...like liil daggars

Oh turkeys aren't that bad. I loved mine. Ferdinand my Black Spanish was such a loveable goof bug. Fully grown he wanted to be picked up and carried around the yard. He followed me everywhere outside and whould wait patiently at the door for me if I went inside. Now Isabella was a little more cautious around people as far as being handled but she would take anything out of your hand if she thought it was food. My Bourbon Reds were dolls too. Always underfoot, investigating everything on your body that they might be able to eat. And the Eastern Wild Turkeys though I was their mommy. They were precious. Followed me everywhere. As they got older I could scream "Babies!" and they would come flying out of the woods and trotting out of the fields...lol

Lophura I would appreciate your input on a few of the birds that I couldn't remember. Most of them didn't have names on their exhibits for whatever reason. Like the pair of dimorphically colored birds I think look like a partridge or pheasant.

A friend's dad had 3 toms that were very loving to him, and him only! I am getting a trio of slates next month, so I guess I will have to socialize them well with my little boy. These 3 won't be for eating, but their babies sure will be!
