Occlated Turkeys???

I'll have to look'em up but I think there are 2 peeps here in Texas that raises them...not cheap, somewhere in the neighborhood of $3,000/pr. They will also need a climate controlled enclosure, they can not handle temps below 50° I'll send you PM when I find them, I saved them to my computer.

Thankyou! I knew they would be expensive. I thought more than that but I thought the could handle a bit more cold than 50F. I’ll still take their numbers though just to ask a few others questions. Thankyou!

Sid Drenth, Texas don't have a number or his location, may be able to get it from http://www.texaspeafowl.com/galloformes.htm
Virgil Bates, Ft Meyers, FLA (239)450-034
As far as I know there's only about 4 resources in the State's for these birds.
Virgil is the only one that has got them to breed and able to hatch. I think he sells his $6,000/pr.
A nice cool breezy day will kill these birds. Their from a tropical environment. They also require a special diet, in the wild their primary food choice is insects. In confinement, they would require a huge, planted climate controlled facility. Biosecurity is also a major priority, they can not tolerate any diseases that other domestic poultry tolerate...they will just die.
Not trying to discourage you at all but this species is better left to the pro's at raising exotic rare birds. I belive there are only 2 zoos that have them, San Diego and the Bronx.
I'd love to have them too but I don't have the money, facilities, or the expertise to keep these birds.
I raise some fairly demanding rare species of pheasants but I'm smart enough to know that Occelated turkeys are out of my league.

Ok. Thankyou for the info. I will probably skip buying any. Because of the biosecurity and the cold. In Wisconsin we have way to much cold for them! Thankyou for the numbers.
