I am going to be setting 26 bantam eggs into my octogon eco in a few hours here. I'm hoping to have a good hatch. So far the bator has been staying at 99 degrees. Congratz on your hatch
My first hatch in the Octagon 20 Eco began this morning. I had 12 mutt eggs and 12 Welsummer eggs. As of tonight, I have 9 hatched out of the mutt eggs and 1 Welsummer (I was told the Welsummers might be a little slower to hatch). Tomorrow is day 21. So far, all have hatched fairly quickly and cleanly, and all look healthy. I have several pips on the remaining eggs and hopefully will have more new chicks in the morning. I did remove the first eight after they had fluffed up and dried for a few hours (it's a little crowded in the Octagon with 8 chicks and 14 eggs). We made a super quick removal, then put the top back on the bator and the temp. and humidity were good in just a few minutes.
The hatching continues in my new Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco. This morning I had 13 new chicks--all dry and active. We did a quick removal again and put the new chicks in with the brooder with the other 8 that hatched yesterday, then closed the incubator. I have one Welsummer egg pipping now and hopefully the two remaining eggs will hatch. Compared to my two previous trys at hatching, the process in the Brinsea has been great--it really keeps the temp. and humidity right on track.
Before I go out an buy one of these I would like to know how it dose in a room that the temp. is not a constant? (day warm ---- night cool) I know I won't have to baby sit this unit.
My temps swing from 45 to 90 (at least this week) and I have not seen more than 1/2 a degree change in the Octagon 20 eco. Yay!
One of my guinea fowl hatched yesterday, and tomorrow is the hatch day for the second set of eggs- three Nankin and another keet.
I think I did indeed over humidify with sponges with the last hatch. I reduced it to two sponges and 50-60% for this hatch. Here is to hoping the last four hatch (staggered hatching)
I love this incubator
it is so easy to clean!
I put the bottom half in the dishwasher and it's all sparkly clean and I unscrewed the internal plastic panel to clean the fan area (little fuzzy feathers on the fan) and clean all the plastic.
Perfect. All ready to go again!
