October 2016 Hatch-A-Long!!

I start lock down today too! I have not hatched in several years, so I am very nervous! 18/20 made it to lockdown. The 2 culls were infertile. No quitters or blood rings this hatch! A first for me! Yay. This time I am doing dry incubation. Getting my humidity up is hard.

Good luck. I hope you have good news in a few days. How many eggs did you set?

18/20 is so great!! :ya

I have two fluffy babies!! No pips or anything from the legbars or the BCM's. But... If these two made it made a couple more will. The two that hatched are saffires. Leave it to the leghorns to be good and hearty. =)

Well, after carrying the little half-spraddled Silkie around with me and feeding it boiled egg yolk, I came across the chick-in-a-cup idea. So, it is back in the brooder, tucked in a little cup with paper toweling, brace still on. Maybe an overnight in a cup will help out. At least it won't get pecked and trampled.

Did you try giving it vitamins

Spraddle Leg Silkie aka Houdini managed to slip out of the cloth bandaid, the plastic bandaid, and the velcro wrap. I was not going to give up, so I got some 'self-adhesive bandage wrap' from the grocery store for $2, and it works like a charm. It stays on and has more flexibility, so he can actually stand up and walk without falling on his face. Much better. That, plus short stints in the cup are the rehab plan.

Two of my fluffy Silkie chicks go to a new home tomorrow, leaving me one of each fascinating color from this hatch. If my Wyandottes hatch out in three weeks, I am planning on having them share a brooder with these Silkies. The size might be close, so I am hoping it will work out.
