So true. It is a risk. I bought a bunch of silkie eggs this spring and when I got them they where mostly scrambled. Broken and yolk everywhere and the shipper used shreded paper so it was a huge mess. I got 1 chick and it died a few days old. So she graceously offered to replace them and sent out part at a time due to having to fill other orders. And out of a total of 90 eggs, I got 7 chicks. They are now laying, and are beautiful birds. I just wish it hadn't ben such a disaster. It wasn't the fault of the seller entirely. The packaging could have been different but thats how this person ships all their eggs. Not my preferred method. I would rather wrap every egg individially then use other things for cushion. That way if the egg (s) do get broken the yolk doens't get all over the other eggs. It's contained. I feel that was a huge problem. Also many where upside down in the cartons . I don't know if the rough handling turned them or what but it ruined the eggs. I sent out quail eggs a couple of times individualy wrapped because I didn't have the cartons for them to ship in. That was a real pain in the rear but I did it to keep the eggs safe.

Most states prohibit shipping hatching eggs without NPIP papers. However, they apparently don't check it because I'm sure there are more people that AREN'T NPIP than are.

I always mark mine as 'FRAGILE EGGS' and 'LIVE EMBRYOS' and usually have reports of very good hatches. The last eggs shipped has all but 2 eggs still cooking and all eggs started. The box was marked as stated above

I think its a state thing. I am a NPIP state tester and I've taken all the classes and jumped thru all the hoops for NPIP and AI certification. Just waiting on the State Vet to come test my birds. I'm pretty sure it varies from state to state. I get email updates when one of our surrounding states changes their guidelines on birds and eggs entering and exiting the state. I also found this website if you anyone is interested in their state guidelines . . . . http://www.guineafowl.com/GeneralStore/regulations.htm

Well, that proves my theory to be wrong. Maybe it's just my state. I know they are horible about not scanning the bar codes on the boxes. If it goes to Memphis it's just about guaranteed not to get scanned. The 2 post offices I use scan mine and if it doesn't already have fragile written all over it they offer to write in on assuming there are eggs inside. It throws them off when I don't have eggs. I send feathers too but they aren't fragile at all. As far as the mail goes. I always use a box to not a bubble envelope.

I've shipped to every US state except Alaska...(oops, no one told me I couldn't ship to HI!), and I've never had a problem. 99% of the time I have either Live Embryos written on the box or stickers that say "hatching eggs" or "Live Embryos" on them.

None of my eggs have ever been sent back.

Sent Back?

Anyway, My 1 egg from the swap is looking like it's not going to hatch. It's a pendagras (sp?) The others where quitters. All of my eggs I added have hatched. Just waiting for this last one.

I have terrible luck with eggs coming from or through TN, I don't know what the P.O. does in your state, but it's not good!

I don't remember who my eggs went to? The buttons should have hatched by now, and if the ducks haven't they should soon. I would like to know how they did
