I'm here!!

We've had horribly cold weather and I have 55 chicks only a month old out in the Banty Shanty, which is an 8x4x4 tractor with a 3x3x4 1/2 elevated, pitched roof coop. The majority of it is just hardware cloth run, and there's no way to keep it an appropriate temp for those little things, so I had to move it, seal it in plastic, heat it and whatnot.

I also had kids home on Friday (planning day at school) and orchestra and choir concerts, etc...Sometimes life gets in the way of chickens!!!

I lost Georgie, my favorite BR hen- it was a long time coming, as she never fully recovered from her broken pelvis- bone healed, but she was still depressed thereafter. I have to ship her off today for a necropsy because I want to know what exactly went wrong.

*Sigh* I'm ready for Spring!

well i received my swap eggs today. what a joy to unpack carefully packed eggs. took so long i thought they might hatch. each egg was wrapped in a envelope fashioned with tape around the middle of and egg and then each end was also secured with more tape. ten quail eggs and much to my surprise two silkie and one frizzle egg. well it looks my hatching season will end with a bang. many thanks.

I got my eggs! It looks as though they came Saturday, but the PO didn't deliver them then or today, because I like to pick them up, but without my cell # they couldn't call me...then they couldn't find them when I came in because my carrier left me a note.

So- I smile and nod and say I'm not going anywhere without my eggs, please look again...and after a supervisor and me asking again and smiling and nodding and refusing to go away, they find them.

Where they belong.

The box is mashed.

The supervisor looks aghast and says she is the one who called me all day Sat on my listed number (not attached to a phone) and that the box didn't look like that when she had it, so it's happened since then...we're both looking at it wondering why it isn't leaking.

I open it to find all eggs intact, save one cracked that got out of its bubble wrap. It's an Eggtober miracle!

I should post shots of the box- really amazing.

Thanks, partner! They're getting ready to cook!

ETA: I should have mentioned I got 9 lovely green eggs- very pretty!
