I have had one little Serama to hatch this morning ~ and I am anxiously waiting for the others! Pics to come soon ~ I think that there are EE's in there too from my partner ~

That's really odd. When I packed them there was no extra room in the box. There was a thick layer of shredded paper, then the foam, another thick layer of shredded paper, then a soft foam sheet, then a hard foam sheet. I had to compress it slightly just to get the box to close. It makes me wonder if the original box got totaled in transit and they repacked them??? I packed them in the exact same box and packaging as mine came in. I got mine from ChooksChicks, I'm sure she can attest that that box was fully packed with no moving room. The only thing I did differently was I took out the EE eggs and put in my eggs.

If they were still packed the way I sent them there would have been no room for the eggs to move. Not to mention that they were very snug in the foam, I had packed eggs earlier in that week and then didn't get to send out so I had to remove the old eggs and put newer ones in. It took a lot of twisting the old eggs to get them out of that foam because I couldn't get them to budge by just pulling on them. It was very difficult getting the new ones into the foam too. They were not loose at all. I have no doubt I could have lifted up that foam out of the box with all the eggs in it and they wouldn't have slipped out without me really trying to shake them out. I'd really like to know how the post office messed up that bad!

Anyways, if you would like more eggs in the spring, just send me a PM when you want them sent and I will do that for you.

That's pretty much exactly how I would describe it! There's no way those eggs could have come free if the packaging was as originally left the sender- the PO must have had to repack after a crush. What a bummer!!

BirdMom~~Most all ducks take 28 days, muscovies take about 35, and calls take about 26. I would think if SS had either of these, she would let you know, so they should be the ones that take 28-ish days

Thanks.

That's where I had marked it on my calendar, and then I started having doubts about my memory of how long they take!

We are so excited about these duckies. We love to let our ducks live in the tub in the kids bathroom (the kids bathe in the master bath) for the first couple of months at least, with one of those non-slip shelf-liners along the whole bottom of the tub. We run the bath for the ducks to have a swim and to wash out the ick once or twice a day, and they're so cute! They love diving for peas or eating a few cheerios plopped on the water. The kids really bond with them and love to cuddle them every chance they get.

I expect we should get at least one drake in the batch of eight, which our four hens will be very happy about, I expect. We even have a Pekin that goes broody, so we're hoping that they'll raise some of their own ducklings next Spring.
