October Hatch-A-Long

I'm only candling because I need to find room under my silkie for these extra eggs that don't fit at the moment and since they are shipped eggs that arrived with one broken there is bound to be something can be thrown to make room. I'm quite nervous about doing the ones under her though, lots of memories of my dad having to check eggs when our bantam was broody and my mum complaining when he did because they never hatched after. Mind you I am pretty sure that he did the float test on them rather than candling because I can picture him at the sink while mum was going crook.

Candled my 24 eggs lastnight! Out of 12 Ameraucana I lost 2 with 2 being iffy and out of 10 EEs I lost two with the rest looking good! I've also got one Isbar egg that is developing well and one Dorking egg that is also developing nicely. Two weeks left!!!!!!!!

Out of my 15 crested cream legbar eggs Ann entire dozen were clear. So disappointed. Those dozen were from one pen. The three that were veined were from a totally different pen. Someone wasn't doing his job ... Ahem ... Cock-a-doodle-doo.

That is a pretty big disappointment, but it's good that you know who is slacking on the job so you won't have to deal with that again!

Sadly, I paid for the little buggers. Just want to clarify I'm not complaining. I did let them know, though, so they can make a switcheRoo, if need be.

Oh man this is going to be a long three weeks. Two days in and the suspense is already killing me. It's worse than waiting for Christmas lol

So I have put 9 eggs in my incubator and they are all tucked in for the night. I am hoping the temp comes up fat though as it went down to 35.6 and slowly rising. I think I will be up later through the night to make sure it is up to temp. I have tested it and it is set for the right temp but still I am nervous this being my first hatch and when I candled the eggs before putting in incubator they seemed porous.
