October Hatch-A-Long

Congrats to all the new hatches!!!

One thing about candling. I haven't been on much but I noticed some candling really early. Day 7 is the EARLIEST I would candle. I personally wait till day 14 or day 10 if I smell something funky. I've had some that looked like garbage the first week but then they end up going all the way and hatching! My hatch rates have gone up by keeping my hands out of the incubator! Lol

Yeah having done this once now I'm going to agree, especially as a novice I wasted a lot of time worrying of eggs that I didn't know enough about to tell if they were okay. Day 10 was when it was finally clear something was happening.

I lost power to my incubator, I don't know how long it was off but temp. dropped to 81. that was yesterday morning. I'm on day 10. I wonder if I should candle or wait til day 14?

I am not having a lot of luck with this incubation thing. my last attempt was coturnix , shipped eggs 5 days in the mail. The shells were thin shelled, and then not knowing better the humidity was to high. I ended up with 5 out of 23. I was really hoping for better results with my own eggs and now a power outage.
