Ocular Marek's

I have a question about ocular Marek's. I have a hen who I noticed is acting a bit lethargic and not reacting to hand motion near her eyes etc. it also seems to be cloudier than my other chickens eyes. Everywhere I read says that the eye will change colours and pupil will change shape. I don't think hers has changed shape and if it weren't for the fact her eye was cloudy like she was going blind I would say it hasn't changed colour. She's about 20 weeks give or take a couple weeks and should have been laying any day now but hasn't started yet. Any thoughts or ideas?

I don’t think that is Merek’s. You can get a test at vetdna it cost like $16 for three test kits and $20 for the actual Merek’s test. I had a chickens eye change but not the pupil, I got him tested, it came back negative.

I don't feel like it is either just from what I have read neither the eye or pupil seemed to have changed she just seems to have gone blind. Thank you I'll look into it we are in Canada so will have to see if that's something I can get here

Does the left eye look normal? I think the pupil edges look a little raggedy. Here are pictures below of ocular Mareks on the right and left with a normal eye in the center. What province are you in? The University of Guelph in Ontario may offer help with testing.

Hmm looks similar to the left eye with the ragged edges I would say just a bigger pupil. I'm in Ontario so Guelph would be the spot to go for testing. Just didn't want to cull if that wasn't the issue

The cloudy and somewhat weepy eye (second photo you can see something wet dripping down from her eye) makes me think that her eye may have been pecked at. I would keep an eye on it and just watch it.

I would take some clear pictures in good light of the 2 eyes, and email or text the pictures to someone at their lab if possible.

Hmm I'll take a second look tomorrow at her but as I see this picture I'm second guessing myself we are in Ontario

I have been checking her everyday she seems off and won't come out of her coop which makes me nervous. But I will keep an eye on it and see if it progresses
