Odd behavior, pale small comb.

Going to check for lice and mites. If thats whats causing this, i really hope its not to late.

Its something. There is tiny tiny dust like spots on the skin (This is just around the preen gland as far as i can tell) and i saw some red mite/lice move.

Is it mites or lice? Probably chicken mite?

What should i do?

Do you have Permethrin dust or spray? I like the dust for treating the birds and the spray for treating housing. But you can use either one to do both.

TSC carries both dust and spray. If it's mites, they can cause a decline, so I'd get rid of them asap. She would benefit from some vitamins like Poultry Cell or a similar too, to help build her back up.

She seemed better yesterday, seemed to be improving and walking around. But now she just is worse. Shes wobbly and off balance, will not move whatsoever, if she does, barely. I don’t even see her eating much more then a few bites.

Shes taking some extremely big breathes. Doing a sway like thing. Shes just sleeping and won’t move at all.

No, not choking, nothing in her beak, no moldy food as far as im aware of and no maggots. Im constantly refilling and checking feed and I've seen no mold.


Ive taken her in the house twice now, to inspect for some mites & lice.

When i do, she goes out and seems a lot better for a while. Eats a ton of food, seems more energetic.

Then, she goes back to normal and is depressed, lethargic, not moving, not eating, nothing.

She may be lonely and missing her friend, but usually that only lasts a couple of days.

Shes with two others in the coop. Shes on the opposite end though, not on the same side.


No panting or anything, i don’t think so. Shes in a shady area.

Im so puzzled.

It is puzzling.
So, she did have mites on her right? Mites can be bad news for a hen.
