I;ve been watching the show Oddities on the Science channel and I LOVE it! It really makes me wish I had the money to collect some of the items they show, especially some of the animal specimens and taxidermy! I also really like the articulated skeletons and would love to get into that hobby (Although I have no clue where I would get my specimens except for picking them up off the side of the road!).

Does anyone here have any odd collections? I think antique medical equipment is fascinating, but also very macabre! I love Halloween and would love to have some of that to put on display.

All I have in my collection are a few bones, a couple goat skulls, a opposum skull (which I think my dad stole and nailed up in the barn), an ostrich egg, and some random furs. Some day I hope I will not be a poor college student and I will have a bit of extra spending money to start a little collection. I've always loved skulls, especially cow, steer, buffalo, and horse skulls. They are very expensive though!

Here is my collection of broken/healed bacululm. How's that for odd?

Did you buy those or collect them yourself?

I had this bad feeling, but had to google bacululm.

Pretty interesting stuff.

Hey chickerdoodle13,

I have some Halibut Otolith (earbones), I collected as a kid. If you are interested send me a PM. They make jewelry out of them in Alaska. Google for images. These are from 80-100 lb halibut, if memory serves. Maybe you could start a collection. Sorry the image is blurry, but you can get an idea from google.

Yea I collected them myself. Thats about 20 years worth. You don't find the broken and then healed ones very often and no, I have no idea how they broke them. LOL

Hey Imp, those fish bones are neat. Kinda reminds me of the drum rocks we get out of drum fish around here. I've got a jar full of them but am feeling too lazy to take a pic.

Fine, now you are going to have to hear my worst date story ever...

A friend (guy) told me I had to go on a date with his friend (never a good idea). Anyway, Andrew picks me up at my dorm and says he has to stop by his apartment for something (should have set the alarm bells ringing - didn't he just come from his apartment???). So we go over to his apartment, I am sitting on his couch and he says "I want to show you something..." and hands me a baculum (I think it was from a walrus) and asks me if I can identify the bone. Well, I didn't know so he finally tells me, let's just say that the date didn't get any better, the dinner conversation was a little stilted... He also wasn't very good at taking a hint that I wasn't interested in him, he just kept calling and I kept saying I was too busy... Luckily, I finally told him I wanted four kids and he said "good luck finding someone that is willing to have that many kids," and I told him I already had (I had just met my husband).

Randy, please don't tell me you have ever used that collection on a date... Or that your name is Andrew...
