8 weeks old now. One of the chicks I go from ideal. I think he is about a 1/3 smaller that the others. Slow to feather but look at the coloration!! Is he a Cochin? Seems like he has hard feathers.
Not sure what is going on with the feather plucking. I have some raunchy roosters , crowing and even trying to mate or is it rape? They are all 8 weeks old. I am fixing to have fryers!!
This is George, my blue mottled. Mottling is a gene that can be carried, but not always show, unless they receive a copy from both parents. So your guy may feather out all dark, but he is at least a carrier.
Thank you, I was hoping someone would respond with genetics. I also have a solid black Cochin, except for a white wing feather on each wing. If I keep the mottled which is very black , I have , partridge, gold laced, silver laced, black, white, and buff females. But maybe I should ask what colors or pattern were used to create the mottled?
