odd egg

That’s a funny expression my young adult kids use.
It means “Fear Of Missing Out”.
So in context it means that “This goofy pair of welsummers sit in the nest just barely long enough to ploop out an egg because they are too nosy to miss out on anything going on outside the coop during their absence.”
Aha! I like that and know exactly what you mean. Thank you.

this is todays take. if it is a disease problem any concerns? the shape seems to be not as elongated and not as rough after a few days on the calcium supplement

If they are not acting ill, eating drinking popping moving around OK<shrugs>,
not much you can do....even if you see symptoms.
Unless you have an avian vet that can do swabs to diagnose then apply the proper AntiBiotic...or just want to start throwing AB's at it.

Had a couple birds(in first flock bought as adults) with mild respiratory symptoms,
they laid corrugated eggs all winter, then it stopped as did the symptoms.

She did not lay any this weekend. It was a bit on the cold side here in NJ. Today was a smoother egg and better shape. Now one of the other ones is not laying for two days Can’t win, but then again Jersey weather doesn’t help. 70 one day 30s the next

Do you give them oyster shell? They should have a bowl of crushed oyster shell on the side available free choice at all times, even on layer feed, as well as a bowl of grit. Separate bowls and not mixed into the feed so they can decide for themselves how much they need. If she got better with some calcium supplements then that is probably what it is and the oyster shell should help her. If you already have oyster shell out, you can try giving a calcium with d3 tablet/pill, human one is fine, just put it down her throat and she should swallow it. But she might also just still be working things out, being a new layer and all. But I would try those things and see if they help.

i have a small bowl of oyster shells for them and mixed it in their feeders. the last few days her eggs have gotten better. a slight rough texture and no more elongated size. it seems she just needed some time and alittle extra calcium.

now onto the next project. DUCKS. wife wants ducks and TC are selling them for cheap. $1 each unsextrd

That’s good!! Probably just some weird, wonky new layer stuff that sounds like it’s straightening itself out!!
