Odd eggs

I have 3 old hens (1 is an EE that used to give us blue eggs). Only one was laying this past summer but stopped before fall. A few weeks ago one started up again. I’ve been getting 1 egg a day. Past 2 days, the eggs don’t look the same. Diff color yesterday. Today the egg is odd shaped and lighter. No other eggs except a white duck egg. Sick hen? Would one stop laying and the other start? Seems very strange!!

I get odd eggs sometimes... I wouldn't be concerned unless strange eggs are very consistent.

They have looked like the 3 identical ones until yesterday. I wasn’t concerned due to the lighter one but the one today was totally different! Diff color, size and shape!! Thanks!

your welcome! It isn't uncommon for a hen to lay a strange egg now and then

Now that the days are getting longer, your hens will be laying more soon. I habpve 17 layers and have only been getting 3 to 4 a day. It is not unually to get unique eggs, especially at the onset of laying again.

When you say old...how old are your three hens?

They are all rescues. Don’t know the ages but all over 6.

Diff bird is likely.

I hsve a Black Minorca that lays what I call bullet eggs. They are long and look like a bullet. Dont know why.
