Hi all, tad concerned about my 3yr old leghorn girl. She's developed some awful looking growths on her wings. She's normally fairly skittish so I genuinely have no idea how long they've been there for.

Initial thought was Mareks (Of course we go To worst case straight up!) but she seems mostly normal. Eating and drinking, walking normally. Only odd thing is she's been hanging around the back of the house and doesn't bolt when we go near her.

In terms of the growths, they feel warm but no odour and didn't seem to bother her when I was touching them. She also has a red lump coming up on her leg, and a small black lump near her ear, not sure if they're connected.

Anyway, have taken photos so appreciate any input. I live in the middle of nowhere so the vets here don't really deal with chickens, their go to is to cull which I'd rather not do if she can be helped.

Mareks, Lymphoid Leukosis, and other viral diseases could be the cause.
I’m hoping someone here has better insight than I do.
There may not be any treatment.

Have you introduced anyone new?
Do any others have any symptoms?

It would be hard to know what the lesions are from without testing or a necropsy after death, but at least one of them looks like an ingrown feather cyst. The one on her ear could be a scab from pecking. The leg lesion could be related to scaly leg mites, but I am not certain. It is true that 2 viruses, leukosis and Mareks can both cause tumors and lesions on the skin and organs of the body. If you should lose her someday, I would suggest getting a necropsy by your state poultry vet to test for Mareks.

You might want to explore the two on her wings with a sterile needle after disinfecting the skin, to see if there is an ingrown feather and pus under the bumps. Wings are very common areas for feather cysts. Here is some info about feather cysts:

I had a dig in the smaller lump, couldn't find a feather, no puss, just a bit of blood.

She's started showing signs of lameness today, he foot curls under when she tried to walk. It is the same leg that the lump is on so maybe connected?
She still has an appetite, poo is normal and her comb is still okay (slightly pale), it's honestly making me second guess everything

I would try some human vitamin B complex 1/4 tablet daily crushed onto her food. That may help if it is a riboflavin deficiency. You may want to keep her within reach of her food and water. Where are you located? If you are in the US, you can get a blood serum sample tested for Mareks for $20 here:
